  • Gibson's Giraffes V Robbo's Raccoons - who wins?

    In 2002 V 2013, most are picking 2013.
But how do they compare to the greatest club side of all time? Have they surpassed them?

Russell Fairfax 1 Anthony Minichiello (c)
    Bruce Pickett 2 Dan Tupou
    Mark Harris 3 Michael Jennings
    John Brass 4 Shaun Kenny-Dowall
    Bill Mullins 5 Roger Tuivasa-Sheck

    John Peard 6 James Maloney
    John Mayes 7 Mitchell Pearce

    Kevin Stevens 8 Boyd Cordner
Barry Reilly 9 Sonny Bill Williams
    Ron Coote 10 Aidan Guerra
    Arthur Beetson (c) 11 Jared Waerea-Hargreaves
    Elwyn Walters 12 Jake Friend
    Ian McKay 13 Sam Moa

    Harry Cameron 14 Dan Mortimer
    Dennis Tutty 15 Luke O'Donnell
Greg Bandiera 16 Frank Paul Nuu'ausala
    Ken Jones 17 Mitch Aubusson

I've put in bold my selections (centre is too close to call, hooking role is completely different so can't judge. selected those players to make the bench for Gibson's team but don't really know enough about them to judge. Selections based on form in 74/75 and 2013

two hard to compare the 75 side was a very good ball playing team who had to play the game with 5 meter rule the otheris more regimented with a lot of skill as well.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe

The 2013 side doesn't have the runs on the board to compare with 74/75 as yet. That team was amazing and they dominated the comp like no other. The won the mp by 10pts in 75 and in 74 they were 8 points clear. Their defence was amazing and that 75 side was unbeatable. I know they lost a few games but they never lost when it was important. If this current team can win the mp and premiership this year then they'll go close to matching the 74/75 teams, but that side you had to see them in action to realise what a great team they were, probably the greatest club side of all time.

i think the 2013 team needs to prove they can win 19+ consecutive games and keep the grand final team we play scoreless

It's like comparing Gherkins and Dill Pickles.

Mind you the comp is much closer these days. In 74/75 there was only a few teams who were bona fide contenders, these days any team can beat you but in 75 only Manly, saints and probably Canterbury were contenders, the rest made up the numbers. Still Easts of 75 was a mile ahead of that bunch.
