and our best winger cant catch a cold. Would you prefer SKD? I think he has potential but does not deserve a spot as yet unless his preseason is dynamite. I agree exactly with your side chris and I will complete it for arguments sake:
    1. Carney
    2. Perrett
    3. Graham
    4. Williamson
    5. Miniciello
    6. Anasta (c)
    7. Pearce
    8. FPN
    9. Friend
    10. Ryles
    11. Myles
    12. Conn
    13. Maubs

    14. Paea
    15. JWH
    16. Symonds
    17. Jones

      Time to throw a spanner in the works;

      1. Carney
      6. J. Aubusson
      7. Pearce
      13. Anasta

Now this I would like to see.....Jaubs impressed as a backup half at the Storm and the one match he played as half-back against the Dogs in 08. I don't rate him as a hooker, I rate him as a half or as a tackler - give him a go BS!
Fair dinkum. James Aubusson at 5/8.

"Jaubs impressed as a backup half at the Storm".

      No he didn't

As to Carney, the old saying about never weakening a strength to strengthen a weakness springs to mind.

There's no need for all this creative tweaking and experimentation and moving guys out of position and trying to make "a new Kurt Gidley".

      Mini plays fullback

      Perrett plays wing

      Carney plays 5/8

      Pearce plays 1/2

      Anasta plays lock

Carney is the 5/8 solution we've been searching for ever since Anasta got slow. Just give him his chance in that position, and there'll be no problems

actually, I should edit that to add that if Anasta doesn't make a go of lock, he doesn't play first grade. Just moving him back to 5/8 and then shifting Carney and god knows who else out of position just to accomodate Anasta would be madness

He was pretty ordinary at times during the cowboys game.
But you can't fault how good he has been for the Roosters.

Actually, he did. And he also went well when he played halfback on the odd occasion with us. But I still would rather Pearce and Carney in the halves.

That was after stuffing around at 5/8.... I still reckon he has it in him for a big season at FB/wing if his body is up for it.. which is the biggest if..

Correct. Jorbs is almost exactly like a Travis Burns sort of player. Probably not the most talented player in attack, but he DOES have a decent kicking game when he decides to use it, and he tackles very hard.

I really wish our hookers would take hold of the reigns and try to control the play more. I know Friend is very young, and other hookers his age like Andrew McCullough (Broncos), Travis Waddell (Raiders) and Masada Iosefa (Panthers) have the same problem, BUT we need someone kicking from dummy-half just to get us on the front foot sometimes.

Well you wouldn't want Travis Burns playing 5/8 for us, surely. We need some spark. We need someone who IS a "talented player in attack"

                Carney is the guy

                Just wait and see

Hence why I agreed with Melon saying that our best halves combo is Carney/Pearce.

I would definitely rather Carney/Pearce with Braith at lock, than Anasta/Pearce with Carney at fullback.

or look at what Brisbane did when Lockyer was at fullback.
He played the attacking 5/8 role and then the defensive fullback roll.
This allows virtually 2 locks, one with some ball playing ability (under a decent coach) and the other defensive work horse.

Note I mention lockyer not Khunt, because when they tried it with Khunt he was ****ing hopeless at it.

                      I hope so.
Personally I always thought he should get off the grog, and if he is then I think he just might have a good year or 2 in him, if as you say his body holds up.

You'll find that toward the end of the season Friend started to kick out of dummy half quite a bit. Co-incidently he also started running and playmaking more. Chains loosened me thinks ?

That would have been because Farkwit Fittler had lost interest and the players could do as they pleased.

Both Jaubs and Friend have the potential to shine in attack, they just need the opportunity and the game plan.

Farkwit Fittler wanted his No. 9 to do little more than catch and pass. God forbid they showed any attacking ability - that was for the halves and no one was to mess with that.

Novice - I really take offense to reading what you call Fittler. I think we can all agree that he may have been the worst coach we have had at Easts, but it should not take away from what he did bring to the club over his playing days. What you call him is personal and I don't believe he is a farkwit of a person...Just a shocking coach that was thrust into a position he was not suited to...

                            Cheers..

A great player can also be a farkwit.. The way he conducted himself this season lends me to suggest it is not out of the question.

So, because you decide something's "not out of the question", it's then justified for you to take it as given

                                you're a really intelligent guy
