What you call him is personal and I don't believe he is a farkwit of a person...Just a shocking coach that was thrust into a position he was not suited to...

Offence is noted. I will try to remember to shorten it to FW Fittler. I think that's a fair compromise.

Whether he is a FW is a person is debateable, sometimes you have to see a person under pressure to realise who and what he truly is.

I try hard, but like most I do have my occasional failing.

I thought that would have been Laurie Freier or Russell Fairfax ....

We finally get a decent five-eighth and the coach wishes to put him at fullback

A young creative 5/8 at fullback, absolutely nothing wrong with that if they cope with the basic fullback positional play etc.
                Gives them room.

A little more confident after listening to an interview of Smith today.

Basically said there's not much doubts he could handle the position in attack but we wont have the ball all the time and he'll have to deal with kicks etc. Said he will test him at training and see what he shows before actually testing him in a game.

I've met Freddy a few times - he seems like a lovely guy, but too easy going for a first grade coach.

To call him a ****wit is ridiculous - he's just not a good NRL coach.

He's arguably the greatest player to play in the red white and blue, and carried this club for a long time.

It really hurts to see his legacy dragged through the mud by a short coaching stint that was extremely successful bar his last year.

I'm relatively new to the forum, but have a respect for your posts, as they seem logical, and enormous respect for the fact you won't spend money on the club because of Mason, who is a disgrace. But remember the 2002 Grand Final? That happened because of Brad Fittler. We can throw up are hands and say it was a team effort - but that season, without Freddy, we would've been average if not worse. I'd say most of the great moments we remember from the past 10 years wouldn't have happened without Freddy.

2009 will be forgotten. Brad Fittler, I hope, will be remembered for a long, long time.

                      I agree BlindFreddy

                      Short memories.

The bloke is a legend and shouldn't be remember or judged based on one year.

Any man his age with a family that gets that pissed and walks half naked around a hotel room acidentally waking half the floor because he cant remember where his room is, is a farkwit.

Is Freddy a likable character? Yes.

Is he a club legend? Yes.

Did 2009 show that he can be a farwit? Absolutely. I guess we are all capable of that from time to time. He isnt alone. Some of the nicest farwits Ive ever met are on this forum.
He will always be remembered for the good things. But he'll always have the contextual second nickname of Shittler as well.

There Fittler a great player, great bloke, well we will never know and it would be hard having been on a pedestal for so long, but he does seem ok.

As far as deserving respect, he probably does but nothing like the respect Fitzgibbon deserves

But as a coach he was disgusting. From day one he was rubbish. It was not entirely his fault he had no support and dickhead young players.

Its common knowledge that the only reason Fittler had the winning streak at the start was because opposition teams had no idea what thje Roosters were going to do. Soon as they figured that out it was down hill

Not true at all. The winning streak at the start came because he introduced the required attitude at the club - a relaxed attitude where the players respected the coach, but didn't overthink their footy. In fact, the Roosters played simple but effective football, with passion. Somewhere along the line, towards the end of 08-09, that slipped into a nonchalant, I don't give a shit type of football, and everything collapsed. Fittler has potential as a coach, but has a long road of assistant coaching before he cracks a first grade, full time, NRL coach.

I agree. His indiscretion was a result of stress and pressure IMO. Not an excuse but a reason.
I'll never forget the end of the season when he took over from Anderson! So exciting and hopeful. This success did not prepare him for the "real" world of coaching.

                                No.
While he did improve moral for a small time and changed things when he came in to coach, he never changed another thing. That is why we lost the semis that first year.
This was pointed out to me by people involved in coaching in the NRL and junior representative teams.
The players apathy set in towards the end of Fitlers first year when they realised Fitler as a coach had nothing to offer and that nothing changed.
His appathy set in when he realised he had no idea and had no repsect from the younger players. This attitude of the younger players was confirmed by Fitler himself during a coaching course earlier in the year.

In my opinion O'meley never played much this year due to the same crap from the younger players.

The top two points are not the normal internet speculation and opinion, they are fact pointed out to me by people who have been there and done that.
