Surely he'll get a deal in Japan, but if not, how can we possibly have him sit out the season, and still pay him $400K? That's ridiculous.
This isn't a defnce of him in any way, but they say knee injuries like his take 12 months to get over, and then the player needs to get his confidence back. Towards the end of last season, I reckon there were a couple of very faint glimmers of hope that maybe he was improving.
That said, I'd prefer him gone too. But if he doesn't go, we simply don't have the roster to have a $400K player sitting on the sidelines.
If there are no bigger fools than us to take him, then I'd prefer him on the sidelines.
we need to move on.

Mason will not be in japan this season because the comp is half way over, if anything it will be from next season, which means we should utilise Willie to our own benefit, its no good having 450+ of our cap sitting our or playing for newtown, the guy will be playing for his future and too shut a few people up, Smith needs to use that to our advantage.

Fact is the Roosters bought him knowing what they were getting and taking a risk on him. The fact that it's backfired is their own fault.

I really don't know what the big fuss is about. Mason hasn't had anything to do with our club going backwards. In his first season he was ok. Was one of our better players in a side being coached poorly yet through divine intervention made the top 4. He has barely done anything wrong. He had a few beers when he shouldn't have and he pissed on the street. Who cares. This year he was recovering from a knee recronstruction and again was by far not our worst player.
As for him and his big mouth so be it. There is one or two in every team. The Roosters needed to put in place an environment to manage him. Not control him. The Saints had similar issues when they had a young coach and so too Souths this year.
If Mason was playing under Smith he would excel. I really hoped he would be playing this year as I am certain used in the right way he will be a very dominating player.
Fittler as much as I admire the bloke for his playing days was not the coach we needed.

Anyone read the snippet from Buderus's book in the telegraph a few sunday's ago?
He makes it quite clear that Smith hates players with big personalities. That's why he let Newton loose. Apparently he didnt like him hyping up the players in a certain way..Smith preferred him to lead through his on-field action.
Fitzy-esque not Mason-esque.
Also prefers a more horizontal player salary structure with very few players on big bucks. New England PAtriots model he has read so much about. Why do you think Parra and Newcastle never recruited big name players. It's not like Parra didnt have the cash. Looks at their spend now under Anderson.
I'll doubt we'll see us recruiting the likes of Tuquiri, Jennings, Haynes etc in future years. There will be more of a focus on juniors or buying players on average salaries and building them up. Having more faith in players and giving them time to flourish.Exonerate the West Memphis Three - www.wm3.org

Unless the player is exceptional, like an Inglis or a Hayne, then the days of the $350K+ salary will become obsolete.
Souths don't get it, they have a disproportionate amount of the cap in big lumbering forwards. I know Lang likes big forwards, but I don't know whether they will cope in the modern game and the second phase play.
