If I were to name the greatest combined Roosters side I've ever seen, Anthony Minichiello would be my fullback. What a great player he was. He was without question the number one custodian between 2003-2006, and he was rated the best player in the world in 2005.
Unfortunately, everything I have said, has been in past tense. Last night, Mini looked slow, too slow to ever threaten a defensive line. When was the last time you saw him make a clean line break ? He is getting man handled by opposing players.
The turning point last night, was when at 8-6 he was driven back in goal, as Souths players swooped on the ageing warrior. Granted, his players were not there to support him, but it turned the match.
Everyone agrees that Roger T. Sheck is a brilliant player, who would kill it at fullback. Opposing teams, don't fear Mini. They are quite content to kick to him, knowing he won't hurt them. A totally different proposition is Tuivasa Sheck.
The plan was always for him to replace Mini at fullback this year. Sheck is a game breaker, and is past his use by date as just a winger.
I'd be moving Kenny-Dowall to the wing, and bring Aubusson at centre.
Does anyone agree with me ?
Last night was dreadful. On paper we are a 12 point better side than Souths, yet they hammered us. The last time we met, we had 6 players out, and we won 24-12.
I have no doubt, we can go back to back. I just think with Sheck at fullback, we stand more of a chance.
