    Bargains hopefully

If there are none out there

Then keep some up our sleeve for 2011

No rule says you must spend your whole salary cap

        True

But you can tie up cap space on multiple year contracts on complete duds like we have in the past and then find yourself having to shed players that you want to keep.

They can also forward pay some of next year's contracts which effectively means you have more for the following year.

Well look at the players we have re-signed long term already:

                Conn (2011)
                Nuuausala (2011)
                Anasta (2011)
                Kenny-Dowall (2011)
                Symonds (2011)
                M Aubusson (2011)
                Graham (2011)
                Williamson (2011)

                Friend (2012)
                Perrett (2012)
                Jones (2012)
                Waerea-Hargreaves (2012)
                Cordner (2012)
                Cherrington (2012)

                Pearce (2013)

+ Ryles is supposed to be signing for 2 years (2011), and Carney is supposed to be signing for 4 years (2013).

I think these players should be left be for the time being, these contracts should be sufficient for at LEAST the next season. That leaves the players off contract next year - J Aubusson, Kouparitsas, Masoe, Paea, Tuigamala and Minichiello. Would we look to keep any of them? Or would we look into a more long-term centre option to replace Graham eventually?

Build the core around players to build the right structure:

It can go to paying the bookies back money we owe them

The irony is that we need backrowers.

All that matters is that the money, if it becomes available, is not wasted on yet another overrated, overpaid dud like the one the Roosters are currently attempting to dispose of.

If there's no quality in the market, then use it to upgrade some existing contracts or keep it in reserve in case they can snaffle a reasonable player from another club early in the season.

There are a few clubs with salary cap pressure so if the Roosters have the moula, there's no reason why a deal or two can't be negotiated for players that will actually improve our playing roster.

I would for ONCE like us to pick up a young and talented player who we develop into a superstar. Just once...
