Why would he? You can criticise the referees. You just can't say things like:

"I reckon Ben Cummins is a corrupt little twat who could well be receiving payoffs from organised crime figures."

That would be defaming Cummins and would be a totally outrageous thing to do.

Even something like the following would be unacceptable:

"Ben Cummins has clearly been biased against the Roosters for many years."

In fact, you can even be charged with libel if you broadcast a video that damages the reputation of an individual.

So maybe Channel 9 are in trouble after last night...

He virtually suggested a long term ingrained bias against us by saying "its been going on for decades" and still no fine.

I'm quite sure the NRL wants to bury this as quickly as possible. Fining Robbo would only highlight his points even more. I hope the club doesnt let this go.

What did the commentators on 9 say to possibly make them libel.

I was being facetious, Kurt. Apparently, you can be guilty of libel if you broadcast a video that is deemed to damage the reputation of an individual. I was suggesting that just broadcasting the game was damaging Cummins' reputation (however infinitesimally minute that reputation already is).

The gibbering hadley has just asked if someone can get todd greenburg on the line and explain himself, in how he has let trent robinson off after he is literally calling cummings a cheat, by saying ben cummings is coaching manly to not give away a penalty.

Not suprised they want this to go away real quick. The club should not let up on this now up the anti and demand an offical explanation for all concerned within the fans included as to what went on in regards to Cunmmins refereeing performance last night He should not be refereeing 1st garde next week with the things he did and didnt do last night

Because what Robinson said was factually correct. Cummins was warning Manly players instead of just penalising them... FACT!

Yep its the one thing I hate, telling players they are doing the wrong thing, but not penalising them?

Exactly. I watched the game again and Robbo is spot on. Before scrums were packed, Cummins would go up to the player and personally tell him what he was doing wrong.

I also thought they were trying to cut down on the communication between players and the ref.

an official explanation must be forthcoming re ref performance as this now impacts on betting big time! if it was racing cummins would be fronting the stewards at least!

He should be sacked and never allowed to referee again.
                        He won't be though.

Finally our coach and club have had enough of it all, have drawn a line in the sand, and spoken out very forcefully.
So good luck fighting the war...cause you sure will need it.
We beat Superleague, and we'll beat you."

"Btw, the sport you're presiding over is dying a slow death.
You'd be better off making sure the games are refereed fairly, no matter the results.

You said on 2GB today that you're working hard.
You could work a little harder.
Phone the referees' boss and each referee individually....for starters.
Tell them how it is...that any repeat of the crap that passed for fair refereeing on Friday night and they'll be sacked, never to be seen again in the NRL''.

I just found this bit that was cut out of last nights press conference with Trent.

                          SUPER DRAGON!

I just love it when the markers are called offside, then make the tackle & play is allowed to go on. Buhrer & Ballin were being called all night.

Mr Smith seems to think it's the ticket prices which are keeping people away from the games. He wasn't happy with the crowd numbers for Friday night's 2 games. For starters, St George played a QLD team much despised on a rainy Friday night in a regional area and we played a team from the other side of the bridge (also much despised) whose fans don't even attend their own grand finals at a stadium so water logged the under 20's game had to be moved, so what does he expect in terms of crowd figures?
