What about representing QLD?? Does that also mean nothing?

Fact is the Roosters have given away 2 QLD and Australian front rowers, both under the age of 26, in successive years. We replaced them with 2 ageing bulldog recruits who are both now gone.

It was one of the dumbest moves in a decade of incredibly dumb moves by our board in their recruitment strategy.

        I know he's a mate, but really...

Letting Crocker go was dumb. He went on to excel for Melbourne and cause me grief by donning the filthy red and green.

Letting Cross go was dumb. How many centres do we have again?

letting Shillo go? 50/50 call at best.

Letting Morley go was supremely dumb.

            Hannant was also unfortunate.

I agree that there have been plenty of other huge **** ups as well. Cross in particular is right up there.

I just see the Shillo/Hannant releases as being particularly stupid as both were 24 when they were released, with both showing glimpses of their future ability and pressing for QLD jumpers.

Barring injury they'll be the QLD front row for the next 5+ years. They are no Price and Petro yet, but if they become even half the props they are, that will hurt.

The decision regarding Shillington was such a poor one. For once, ONCE, they actually put some time into developing a forward. Just as he starts to hit his straps, what do they do? Let him go. Unbelievable. They just never learn. It's lazy, shortsighted roster management. Even Smith said the other day when talking about the signing of Ryles - "We STILL need another prop". How much could Shillo have learned under Smith? Shillington improved lengths in his last season with us. Now he's an international. Deluded people say that means nothing. Bullshit. It means heaps. The Qld selectors aren't stupid. Nor are the Australian selectors. They'd both have him earmarked as rep player for some seasons. He's 26, and on the way up.

Yet another stupid, lazy, incompetent call by Roosters "management"

Would you pay 350k for Shillo? Even if it was close to that I wouldn't pay that much for him.

There was no way we could have matched that with our cap at the time even if we wanted to.Shillo was no great loss to us.

You can not make a guy stay when he doesn't want to - Nothing could be done about Hannant..

Shillington was offered a contract at Easts but chose the $350K from Canberra - Nothing could be done about that except paying him way too much money..

We are now fixing the problem by signing Ryles..

Whinge when they sign someone - Whinge when they don't sign someone....

                      Tupou is the one-that-got-away IMO..

                          agreed, it is top dollar

But where does it say that's the figure he got? I can't find one article that mentions any figure

But if $350K is what he got, I'd have just about matched it if I was the Roosters. He's got a lot of upside.

They've got no problems paying that to buy guys from elsewhere. What about paying it to keep someone you've put so much time into?

The Roosters gave Toupou away - they made that decision when they signed the Wanka. They were never going to be able to afford both and they knew it. Yet another bloke they spent years developing only to cast him off in favour of an overpriced dud.

Toups took the best deal that was offered and we couldn't compete with the Sharks on that score.

We should have let them sign the Wanka and us keep Toupou.

We put lots of time into him but I don't think he'll ever be that good.

He could be a rep player for the next 5 years but all that really matters is what happens for the Roosters and I don't think that we should pay top dollar for someone that will never be more than just solid.

But we pay top dollar for guys from elsewhere who then come here and lose a leg?

But I guess we disagree on Shillington. I think he's much more than solid
