I agree. He's a first grader at best.

Shillington was offered a contract at Easts but chose the $350K from Canberra - Nothing could be done about that except paying him way too much money..

We are now fixing the problem by signing Ryles..

Whinge when they sign someone - Whinge when they don't sign someone....

        Tupou is the one-that-got-away IMO..

        Typical roosters management problem solving....

Lets not wastee $350K on a 25 y.o prop that we developed.

Lets spend it bringing a 30+ y.o injury prone prop back from the retirement village (ESL) instead.

I swear, some of the roosters decision making could feature on thereifixedit.com

What's done is done.. We now do not have the option to sign Shillington who I think is way overpriced at $350K.. We can only sign players who are currently available and Ryles is.. He is going to be getting circa $275K a season for 2 years and imho will out perform Shillington in the next couple seasons anyway.

Absolutely. He had 4 seasons at the Roosters. That is long enough in professional sport.

As I said earlier, both Hegarty and Tessmann played for QLD and Australia. As did Wayne Bartrim.

Yep, wish they were playing for us right now.

You are kidding yourself if you think he is coming that cheap.

That is a 50% paycut compared to his ESL salary. No one, particularly someone who already chased the money to the ESL, is that stupid.

Had Ryles only been after small money like you claim, he'd have had his pick of other clubs besides the wooden spooners.

Worst of all, if our club was adamant about bringing back a risky old prop from the ESL, why not Cayless instead of Ryles? At least we know he'd give his all for this club.

                  exactly right.

And can anyone produce an article that mentions Shillington being on $350K a year?

Ryles' salary is probably just about covered by Sa's salary. That bloke was not on small change even though he did jack shit.

Whilst I'm not a great fan of Ryles, at least he seems keen and eager to prove himself at the Roosters.

That's more than many in our squad have managed over the past 18 months.

Ryles will always be a frustrating player - rocks one minute, diamonds the next. All we we can hope for is that Smith will at least improve his discipline.

                        Reaching for what?

In 2010 Jason Cayless will be lining up for the Tigers while Ryles will be lining up for us.

I know which one I would prefer.

Cayless always gets injured so it's a risk if we purchased him i think.

His not going to near as good as 5 years ago!

Cayless loved Easts. We got rid of him. Ryles is here for one reason, Money and only because Smith is here.

I have never hoped of being more wrong about anything, but I believe Ryles will be a monumental liability.

I am 100% sure Ryles would have to take a pay-cut to join us.. Heck he could of stayed with Catalans and not play and earn more...

Which unfortunately is a Roosters specialty when it comes to recruitment, no matter which coach is in charge.

Hopefully he won't be as much a liabiilty as the one management is currently trying to palm off to Japan
