  • Pearce to Manly | A question not a rumour

Curious to know how settled Pearce is at the Roosters. Has anyone spoken with him recently? For a 20 year old with plenty of games under his belt he seems to cop a bit of grief from our 'supporters'. I for one do feel he is up for big things and should be with us long term.

I recall Manly had made a play for him previously. Yes he is contracted but any thoughts on them making another big push?

    Carney 7, Anasta 6??

Certainly keen on Pearce staying but you never know.

the number 7 spot has traditionally come under fire, some time justified, sometimes not.

Players like finch, lam, John symons and now pearce have played part of their career under the microscope that is the roosters number 7 jersey.

One thing that differentiates Pearce from the players i mentioned, pearce has not had freddy in the 6 jersey on the field, he has only had freddy in the coaching box. And we know that fittler the player is head and shoulders better than fittler the coach.

Alot say that pearce has had enough opportunity to show himself.........but has he really? Has he been used to his full potential? Have any of the roosters players over the past 4-5 seasons been used to their full potential?

Manly themselves are not in the best financial position anwho with talk of watmough being pushed due to the cap and orford being released, can manly afford pearce?

Pearche has had alot of opportunity, but not much guidance. He will get that under Smith. I hope he stays because i think we will see a different attitude and better involvement from pearce in 2010.

With Ryles, FPN, Myles, Paea, JWH, Cherrington, Symonds and possibly Mason this is his year to show what he has.
He will finally have a real go forward pack which should give him time to come into his own
But if he has the go forward and pearce doesnt take his chances we should start looking at a Carney, Anasta combo

We also have another halfback in Liam Foran who could also come into contention. The kid took Newtown from last to the top eight so could be a real chance at the half spot

Erm in fairness to Dubai he did put the disclaimer "a question not a rumour" in his title....
I think Pearce will find out very quickly what the coach expects of him, if he doesn't perform there are other options and he will be doing a stint in newtown. Brian Smith doesn't take crap! So if Pearce can't take the heat he may jump outta the kitchen, you never know...

totally agree. Everyone knows im a big pearce supporter and i have plenty of confidence in his ability. This is the year though - i wouldnt say make or break as i dont think he has floundered at all but under someone like smith with quality backs and potentially the best standoff outside him in carney with a forward pack full of size, power and aggression, I think this is the year that will show whether pearce will be a superstar or strong first grader

Who are these quality backs you talk about?

Forward pack still has a few holes in it.

Manly are chasing Marc Herbert from Canberra.

                          Pearce ain't goin' nowhere.

He is the longest signed rooster at the club (2013), although contracts mean hardly anything these days. But it does signal the clubs intentions to keep him long term and build a club around him. The clubs lack of go forward in the past couple of seasons hasn't really helped him build his game, but im sure with the additionof Ryles, JWH etc it will be his year.

Pearce is the most overrated player in the comp. Incapable of taking the line on, creates no opportunities for anyone else, and like so many current halfbacks (except the good ones) he's addicted to kicking. Someone made the point the other day that judgement should be reserved on him until he gets the chance to play in a properly structured side. That's a fair call, but this is a make or break year for him. Please Brian, get him taking the line on. We desperately need our halves to threaten the line. Anasta's too slow and lacking in footwork, and that's why Carney MUST play in the halves, and not at fullback. If Pearce doesn't start to have some genuine impact on games this year, then he should go.
