From memory, Lam's coaching record in the Under 20s was not exactly top notch either, so I don't see why Smith Jnr should be singled out for criticism. Apart from the fact he's his father's son of course.
And it's not as if Lam can take any credit for the Roosters performances in 09 - there's nothing to give credit for.
Smith Snr will live and die by the decisions he makes in both the playing and coaching ranks, so let him make them.
It's not as if any of those before him set a very high benchmark.
As for picking players out of position, that's nothing new at the Roosters - FW Fittler and Stuart were masters at it. The difference is that Smith may actually have the players training in their new positions more than a week before casting them to the wolves in a game.
