  • Anger as Smith scores son a job

    Telegraph

FEATHERS have been ruffled at Bondi with Brian Smith landing his son Rohan a job at the Roosters.

He will coach the Roosters under-20s following the controversial axing of highly regarded Adrian Lam, who has since been hired by Wayne Bennett.

Not all in the chook pen are happy, with Smith Jr far from impressive in his stint coaching Tonga in the Pacific Nations tournament.

Some have suggested it might be a case of the father looking after the son but no one should be surprised by the move.

Rohan has spent the past couple of years at the Knights after he was appointed to a coaching role about the same time his dad was hired. He joined the Knights as an assistant coach in the lead-up to the 2007 season.

Before arriving in Newcastle, he spent four years as an assistant to Daniel Anderson at the Warriors and two years assisting Tony Rea at the London Broncos.

The Sydney Roosters coaching staff for the 2010 season has been confirmed.

The following roles will be staffed by a select group who will help transform the Roosters back into a premiership force under Brian Smith’s regime.

Supporting the head coach is a team of six support staff that will form the football department.

    Trent Robinson – Assistant Coach
    Rohan Smith – Assistant Coach
Ciriaco Mescia – High Performance Manager
Damien Austin – NRL Rehabilitation & NYC High Performance Manager
Jason Schulman – Power and Strength Coordinator
Scott Murray – NYC Head Coach

Each member of the coaching staff has had vast experience and are considered expert in their respective fields.

Roosters online will endeavour to bring more insight into each individuals background over the coming weeks.

Tune in for tomorrow’s Roosters TV exclusive featuring a member of the coaching staff talking about the new GPS system the players are using in preseason.

Rohan Smith is not the U/20s coach. He is assitant coach to Brian and as he says in the video just released,he is also assisting with the SG Ball squad.
Scott Murry is our U/20s coach...

There is a little nepotism going on here that I'm not entirely comfortable with.

On an unrelated note, a guy I work with is a Parra supporter and he reckons we'll all grow to detest Smith eventually because of his persistence in playing players out of their natural positions. As evidence, the Parra supporter cites the talk of playing Carney at fullback as an early warning sign and has several examples of where Smith did similar things at Parra.

I'm wondering what players Smith was playing out of position during during his reign at Parra.

I'm also wondering what is the problem with him selecting his own coaching staff.

4 years with Daniel Anderson is a good apprenticeship, just the papers talking shit like normal.

That said I would have liked to see Lam stay on board but the coach should get the team he wants

                        I'll ask him.

No problem with him selecting his own coaching staff, just a small problem with one of his staff being his son as it seems like nepotism.

That may be the case, but if he gets us playing well, then i'll respectfully hate him.

It was a better option than keeping any of the existing staff.
I am also convinced keeping Scott Murray as the U20 coach is a good idea

                              Nepotism is a bit harsh.

Fact is Smith was hired to do a job.Head coach. He will have to stand on the results he acheives during his tenure.
To have a chance of obtaining his objectives he needs to be allowed to "rule the roost", so to speak.
Appointing whatever staff he wants and hving total say over team selection is crucial.
If he works well with his son.........good on him.
Assisiant coach is thankless dogsbody of a position anyway.Lam will find that out under Bennett.(just ask kevvie walters)
