IT TURNS out there was nothing sinister about a final-round National Rugby League match in which betting was suspended - just a badly performing team.

The Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation launched an investigation last month into a match between the Sydney Roosters and North Queensland Cowboys on September 6, after concerns were raised about gambling on the match.

The players and club should sue Manlay and that rag she writes for.

Probably not going to happen.. If we sue then the truth will come out.. Whether it shows match-fixing didn't happen, I am not sure it will look good for all the players.

        Eh?

The truth has come out, nothing happened, if we don't sue them that's a free pass for these kinds of media whores to make similar shit up in the future.

Chook, do you really think this exonerates them?

I think the lack of legal action speaks volumes, I know if I were accused of something like this and I knew I was innocent I would be after blood..

Not at all. The commission has simply agreed with the NRL's view that they don't have evidence to support the claim. They haven't loooked for evidence, they've simply said we don't have evidence. It's kind of like the police not haviing enough evidence to make a charge stick, and so the person doesn't get charged. Very different from being charged, and then being found not guilty

You're not making sense, you're saying there's no evidence that they did what they were accused of doing but because there's no evidence they shouldn't sue the person that accused them?

              Chook.

There was some strange things in that game, like one experienced player trying to catch the ball like he was pushing a shopping trolley

I'll have to watch the game again (a glutton for punishment) because I believe I missed that one - probably becuase I was too busy yelling abuse at the TV screen at the total capitulation.

The only reason I taped it was because it was Fitzy's last game. At least I think I taped it - I taped something! Perhaps it's about time I actually checked - I did do via on timer on the Monday and we know I'm prone to stuff ups with these things.

Chook I'm saying that there'll be no legal action because then The SMH would, as part of their defence, identify the anonymous roosters player who cast serious doubts as to the integrity of other players, and also because all the brothel stuff would come out. And if there was anything sus, that might come out too. I've watched the game 3 times now though, and apart from one very strange looking dropped high ball, i couldn't see anything

Also, just because the VCRG has said they are satisfied with the NRL's handling of the matter, that doesn't mean that nothing happened. The NRL hasn't been transparent. What did their investigation entail? Who knows.

The Roosters will be smart enough to let the matter quietly slip off the radar now

Its a little like an "incident" at Coffs Harbour a few years back.....

Everyone knows something happened, but there was not enough evidence to make a conviction......

Although it pains me to say so.....best to let sleeping dogs lie......

I will name names... Minichiello turned into an absolute bumbling fool in the second half, however he isn't one of the suspects.. It is more likely he was just a bumbling fool.. The only other dropped ball of note was the SKD dropped intercept but i would be more suspicious if he had of caught it.

They weren't proven to be innocent, there wasn't enough to prove them guilty.. How far did the investigation go? I am thinking not that far.
