After the first 8 rounds I can't help but feel that jr is not reading the defence when attacking the goal line. I'm going to say 9/10 times he has decided what to do before he does it and it is costing us points. There are numerous times where he should have either double pumped and run himself or cut cords to Jenko or gone out the back to rts but rather he just gives it short. Hope this is rectified before too long.

So its not just me This is the norm for Mitchell Pearce Although interesting to see someone mention it as so many times I have thought his selection of short pass or long pass near the line was wrong and has cost us triesWhen you trust your television

Interesting observations...there is a degree of preprogramming with Mitchell..but you could say similar about many halfbacks incl Cooper Cronk.
I still see his form as being his best yet this year as his confidence and control in games has reached the next level.#We Stand with ourJewish community#

Pearce has been playing like that his whole career. He will never be a player with that X factor like a Johns or Thurston etc.Exonerate the West Memphis Three - www.wm3.org

What you are saying is true, and I think it reflects our attack as a whole in the first few rounds - we are not executing as well as could/should be. However if you look at the game against Brisbane, it was Pearce's selection of passing which got us over the line, whether that is down to luck or good management I dunno. But it has cost us points on occassions.
Last year I think he was reading the play well and everytime he made a decision, it resulted in points. I think the difference this year is we are not taking the ball to the line enough, we aren't playing as direct. In the last two games this has improved, we can see that through guerra's try on Anzac Day and cordner's tries in the last two weeks. Even Minis try to a certain degree.

We have a halfback that provides the team with good structure, direction and organisation. Most of the halves that provide that much quoted x-factor need a guy like this in the team as well. Its very rare that you get a player that can provide both.
I'm sure, like most players, when Pearce runs to the line, he already has an idea what he is going to do. On occassions I've seen him change his mind based on the defence though (e.g. holding back on a imminent hospital pass). On other occassions (e.g. the Brisbane game) he has come up with the clutch play to win us the game.
I'm happy with what Pearce provides our team. I've thought he has been one of our best this year. The only area I would like to see him improve is his kicking game (which I do think has improved on last year).

He is just another one of those much maligned players.
No matter what he does it's never enough.
We seem to attract those sorts of players, or that sort of criticism follows our players???
Look at Mini. Yep he had a Bazza with the Sokka miss just before 1/2 time. But GI dropped two rolling balls that directly led to tries from the opposition, but Minis blunder hit the highlights reel, whereas GIs fumbles were never commented on.
SKiD, Mini, PearceOrf, FPN, Maubs are just the current ones. Over the years we have had so many.
On topic isn't it premeditated to have the short runner and the outside runner to hit??? I mean don't these players plan this sorta stuff and knowingly run lines in a premeditated fashion to try and fool the opposition???
So is he taking the wrong options???
I'm sure I read he's at the top of the line break assist column??? And high on the try assist column???
Bizarro.

You know it makes sense.

I feel, no doubt, that some of Pearcey's play is occasionally a little too pre-meditated. Particularly some of the times he runs the ball, one-out, attacking our try line,
However, I'm bloody grateful he's our halfback, and am surprised (it's not surprising really) at the lack appreciation he gets from our fans.
Of course, everyone's allowed their opinion, but it's just a fact that we can't have the best player in every position at our club. Yes, Pearceys not the best halfback in the comp, but he's pretty bloody good in a lot of ways and i'd have him over most halfbacks in the comp.
If our fans analysed and critiqued players from other clubs as much as they do our own, they'd soon be grateful for the crop of players we've got. Pearcey included.
I'm glad he's a Rooster and I look forward to watching him smash the record for most games played in the NRL, all at the one club!

I'm glad he is a rooster also. Can be the best half back in the comp on his day. This thread wasn't a dig at Pearce. It was just a comment on the fact that opposition defence have caught on to the short ball play and we need to adjust to this a little better. Doing this would bring us more success in that area. Not sure why people keep professing their love for Pearce and defending him as such.
