How many season campaigns have been derailed by booze, not just us, but across all clubs?

If these blokes want to be paid like professional sportsman than they have to bring the professionalism and that means being at your best all season, not just when they feel like it.

If Cordner can't match his fellow forwards effort because he's out on the tiles, then he can play for the jets.

    Chook.
Not sure he is totally wrong.

    Have you read Morley's autobiography?

Under Stuart he rated it the best drinking he had done, and this is a bloke born in a part of the world where a pint is like the body of Christ.

As for Guerra, he goes as well as any on and off the field.

That's exactly the point mate, by all reports Guerra loves getting on the piss as much as anyone.

And it certainly hasn't affected his form.

I'm still yet to be convinced its affected Boyds form either.

A lot of puritans seem to follow our club it would seem.

What did Robbo say last night?

Something along the lines of everyone being a bit different in how they behave and react to drama.

There can't be blanket rules for everyone, these guys are professionals they should know what works for them and what doesn't.

Some blokes can't drink/party and function at their best. Carney being the prime example.

The penny should drop with these blokes that to be their best sometimes you need to sacrifice something you love.

          Many great athletes do it.

Excessive drinking and partying did not seem to have much of an impact on the career of Andrew "Joey" Johns. In the modern era there is a very fine line between success and failure and that comes down to mostly preparation as most of the leagues players are on a similar level of talent.

I personally thought that Boyd Cordner was having a very fine year and scored a few very crucial tries for our team earlier in the season however I am willing to accept that perhaps my interpretations of the games are incorrect.

The game has changed a lot since Morley and Freddy were running amok.

Now it is all about recovery and alcohol retards that. It is so much about recovery that some NRL players have taken the risk of illegal substances to aid it.

              Simple equation.

Less Alcohol = Better Recovery = Better Preparation = Better Performance

When only some players fall in with the plan then the others get pissed about it.

Anyway, hopefully a corner has been turned.

In fact, if I can remember how to put someone on ignore you will be the first. Congratulations.
You may have some connections within. But you are truly crazy posting rubbish like this stsae has explained why. Lets see one more time now Newman was right in his views last year saying we could not win the comp with Mini at fullback even though we did win the comp with Mini at fullback Congratulations this view you hold is the most insane I have ever read on here or the old wall Well done If you dont like being called insane or crazy for this Then you can out me on ignore as well

                  This.

I was speaking to a new work colleague last week who when he found out I was a Roosters fan, told me he went to a function at the club for a man with MND. Turns out it was Glenn's night. What a small world!

I am so happy to have been there, I was so proud of the courage of Glenn, Robyn and their children, the incredible generosity of Harry Phipps. I will always remember that night.

We won the comp despite him being there - not because of it.

We can just agree to disagree. A fine upstanding fellow like you should be able to do that.

Thank you. I thought I was on my own there. I'll never forget him ripping into the Tigers in the heat in round 4 in 2010. He would have to be one of the most underrated players and it's like somebody has finally switched on a lightbulb and seen value in the man. He's always been one of my favourites and funny to talk to.

The local Newcastle media never hounded their own like our boys get hounded down here. After the Andrew Johns scandal, a young journalist came forward and spoke of how his life had been threatened because he wanted to speak out about Andrew's behaviour and was basically told you will never work in this industry again if you choose to expose Andrew Johns' partying habits. Remember Andrew played in a different era from today even though it really didn't seem that long ago. What makes me slightly ill these days is that The Sunday Footy Show could not wait to mention Mitchell's incident (it was big breaking news at the beginning of the show) but in every episode (which I barely watch these days) those panelists, including my beloved Freddy, will sit and giggle about Andrew's drinking habits. It just seems hypocritical and unfair.

Guerra has gone to another level sine moving from the edges to the middle of the field.

His mobility & footwork around the ruck are deadly, I've said it before but he reminds me a lot of Anthony Watmough. Exposes a lot of slow & tired forwards in the middle.

Really improved his defence too, it used to be a weak point a few years back now it's a strong part of his game. Has the temperament & fitness to be making huge tackle counts without missing many.

What's the fascination with Newman anyway?

Fair enough if you didn't agree with the bloke but why go on with it?

I mean especially considering he isn't even here to defend himself.

Lol at this thread. Great read.
JT and STSAE I love reading both of your posts here on the Chookpen.
But having read this thread there appears to be, dare I say it, a rift?
