My wife was going to boycott attending games for the length of Brian Smith's tenure. I think I was making some headway towards reversing her choice.

Now. Now i have NO chance.

If he was hired as assistant coach or something more influential then I'd be more cranky about it.
But if he has been hired as solely the kicking coach, then I'm not to concerned .... afterall he was an extremely good kicker in his day !

Jason Taylor agrees to become Roosters' kicking coach free of charge

                By David Beniuk
                December 10, 2009

Sacked South Sydney coach Jason Taylor has scored a new gig in the NRL as Sydney Roosters' kicking coach for next season.
Taylor, whose contract was terminated by the Rabbitohs in September after he was knocked out by second-rower David Fa'alogo at a Sydney hotel, has volunteered his services to the Roosters free of charge.

His contacts there go back to his playing days at Western Suburbs, where he first got to know current Roosters CEO Steve Noyce, and Parramatta, where he was coached by the Bondi club's new mentor, Brian Smith.

Noyce said the Roosters had no problem with the kung fu antics which had contributed to Taylor's sacking by Souths.

“I think he's been a great ambassador for rugby league and can help us in our quest for higher performance so it should be good for us,” Noyce told AAP on Thursday.

Largely due to his goal-kicking, Taylor remains the third-highest point-scorer of all time in top flight Australian rugby league.

“Kicking's such an important part of our game now and we're really lucky to have someone with Jason's skills to come on board and work with our kickers,” Noyce said.

“ ... He's a great football person and I'm sure you remember the skills he displayed not that long ago on the field in terms of kicking.

“The benchmarks now in our sport in terms of kicking, you're looking at trying to reach that 90 per cent plus mark in goal-kicking, and 40-20s are so important and repeat sets.”

Noyce did not rule out the possibility of Taylor becoming a paid assistant coach at the Roosters, but did rule it out for 2010.

“At this stage we're fortunate that he's come along to help us and we'll just see how that ends up,” he said.

He is keen enough to work for free, bottle his enthusiasm for half time drinks...
He knows every shortcoming and weekness of souffs backline, sap his knowledge...
He will be eager to piss off Rusty Crowe in round one with a win for us,that will result in thumbs down to the Hollywood gladiator, and thumb up for us...

                    Totally agree Phantom.

Just as I was feeling a little positivity regarding the Roosters in 2010 they come up with this half arsed 'recruitment move' that has me despairing of this Club's ability to align itself with one unsavoury character after another

I was a fan of Noyce when he joined the Roosters. Now I'm wondering whether he's the devil in disguise. Nothing good has happened since he arrived.

And of course our main kickers are Carney and Pearce, just the ones you want associating with the liks of JT - NOT!

Enthusiasm? Mate that bloke has none, he is probably coming to us to get back at souffs. To be honest i think he made all their weaknesses, didnt let sandow play his natural game so on, so i dont think he knows much at all.

                      He was a poor coach.

As Hawkeye said, JT is the 3rd highest all time points scorer in league.

Alot of those points came from his goal kicking.

Currently, we don't have a goal kicker, we have Braith, Carney and SKD as our goal kickers..................we need all the help we can get in that department and it is free !

also, he hates crowe.................thats a good thing in my book !!!

I agree with Hawkeye. He was a great kicker in his time. Pearce certainly needs some help on his short kicking game although I thought Lam would have made a difference during his time there as he was one of the best exponents of the grubber during his time.

Time will tell with this one.

I suppose it is an improvement from Ben Gardiner and Paul Young.

How is Taylor a poor coach?last year souths made the 8 ,this year their points for was one of the best in the comp & they weren't far off the 8,taylor is not a shit coach ,Fittler is worse than Taylor. You try coaching when you have Russell farkwit Crowe lookin over your shoulder,if taylor is so bad then whats ricky stuarts, matt elliots, neil henry& tim sheens excuses. The only thing taylor is not good at is sucking off Phill the the farkwit Rothfield,if he had a pr man like stuart, he would never have got into this mess.

Actually Ghost, it was us that made the 8 last year not the Vermin. They did scrape in in 2007 though, thankfully disposed of in week 1.

As far as I'm concerned Taylor is a Vermin reject we don't need. It's not as if the Vermin kicking game has ever been much to speak about when he was coach, apart from knowing to kick it to our inept wingers when they placed us, which even I could have figured out.
