  • Sydney Roosters going broke?

    http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/spo...-1226978946096

“The best companies I have worked with have had females at senior and board levels because they bring genuine skills to the table,” Smith said.

“Having more female representation will also enable clubs to better understand their fans and grow the game.”

Tony Crawford, the NRL powerbroker hired to stop clubs from going broke, has visited Sydney-based NRL clubs South Sydney, Sydney Roosters, Penrith, Cronulla and St George Illawarra in the past fortnight to outline the proposal. The NRL has recommended clubs begin phasing in the changes over the next few seasons but will refrain from making it a “mandate” to get approval for an NRL club *licence.[/i]

Won't Uncle Nick be able to be Chairman anymore?
Won't Brian Canavan be able to be the boss of football anymore?
Will 'all' the men on our Board have to be replaced by women?

I think you might be reading too much into this. Besides, Nicola Politis is doing a great job.

I reckon BB would look rather fetching in a dress.

A new career path awaits, BB.
      Go get 'em.

It's perfectly clear to me what's going on...no Harvard degree needed for this one either.

One of the key stipulations from NRL headquarters is to get more women involved at executive level with a view to attracting a new legion of fans. Gold Coast Titans chair Rebecca Frizelle is currently the only female representative among the 16 club board rooms.

        Reminds me of Gillard's 'misogyny' 'gender war';

Affirmative action comes to the NRL.
Women must be employed in key executive positions and on the Board, probably to the Chair, maybe mandated in future as a condition of obtaining an NRL licence if the clubs don't do it themselves.
          Lovely.

          Let the gender war begin!

First battle...a mandated number of cheer boys...say 30% to start with.

Having male representation in the cheerleading squad will also enable clubs to better understand their fans and grow the game.

Why not just employ Ladyboys as cheerleaders that way it's the best of both worlds & saves the gender war..

Apart from number crunching, spreadsheets & ledgers

"In the boardroom", how can any woman have empathy for a sport which originates from working class men

Like politicians Smith's words are cheap & he's trying uproot the soul of league to create a hybrid product for another segment

NASCAR have attempted this & they are failing miserably with plummeting returns & shrinking crowds.

Nick can just put his Mrs on the board.
The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!

                    Here's looking at you, kid.

There are any number of highly qualified women who could and should be involved in NRL clubs at the Board level.

The problem might be in attracting them to a sport where urine gargling and wife bashing seem de rigueur.

The game from players to fans has a dreadful and yet warranted reputation with the way it treats women so I would be surprised if the women who are more than qualified to sit on the board at rugby league clubs would be interested. It is very shameful that we can have a round of football dedicated to appreciation the role women play from mums to volunteers and all the rest when the game does not permanently banish those that assault women.

I have also seen some very appalling comments on this website when talking about women such as the outrageous comment about our cheerleaders being "young s***s" so it is not just the players who think this way.

                            Vidiots too should be female.
