I don't bet my self by choice , but I think it is a bit hypocritical that the NRL jump all over this , I can't think of a side the doesn't have some form of Betting Corporate Sponsorship.
Small wagers don't hurt anyone especially if you are betting on your team to win , it is where you bet against the team that you are playing for or match Fixing which should be illegal.

The NRL don't stop players from betting on the other billion markets available there's just a blanket ban on NRL markets due to potential of match fixing.
Makes perfect, logical sense.
Hypocritical would be if the NRL execs were allowed to on NRL fixtures but everyone else in the game wasn't allowed to. What you describe above has nothing to do with hypocrisy.

Hypocritical in the sense that they endorse sponsorship money from gambling organisations , but ban your members from gambling on them selves.
Gambling has been enveloped in controversy since the dawn of mankind, to think endorsing it is a noble gesture is only fooling ones self.
I am not against Gambling as I said it is a personal choice , the problems start when you back against yourself or manipulate the game to get a pre-established result and the temptation for this easy money is often more than most can resist.
