Back to the subject though the club has done very well in regards to our future with the link up with the central coast. Im sure other clubs are very envious. Only concern is if Wyong are our reserve grade side will young players coming through be happy to have to play and train in the central coast? Some in the top 25 squad will be half down here half up there,Lots of travelling
I agree! I also can't stand the team just being referred to as The Roosters all the time. It was probably not feasible to be called Eastern Suburbs when the comp went national - it was actually a whole lot better when they were called 'Sydney City'. They were referred to as that in the media and it more accurately reflected the area the team represents. People from other areas of Sydney know the team is based in Bondi, so taking the name Sydney didn't achieve anything other than never being called that!

Surely if there are plenty of good kids coming through that club, all the scouts will have wind of it anyway. Are young blokes going to turn down a good offer from say, the Dogs, because their club has a connection to Easts? Got to be pretty unlikely.....

I don't know what sort of set up they have up there, but it's going to have to be pretty good to be better than Newtown imo.

It's done now, and we either like it or lump it, but it seems to have been a bit of a knee jerk reaction to me.
            Agreed!

I'm an Old Boy Wyong Roo from the late '80 and early '90's. My old man was on the board and club president of Wyong RLFC for a number of years too. On the surface it would seem a perfect match for a Chooks and Roos fan like myself but I feel a bit hesitant about the whole situation.

Below is a post I made on another footy forum about this...

"It's interesting. I can see the logic behind it for the Roosters. The Central Coast is one of Australia's fastest growth areas. I think the population has almost doubled in size in the last 20 years and its hasn't slowed yet. There are thousands of kids up there playing jnr footy compared to a very small amount in the Newtown area, which I think could fall under Souths jnr region anyway.

Does this mean the final demise of one of our original Foundation Clubs in the Jets? I hope not but it doesn't sound good does it?

When Wyong first applied to play in NSW Cup the board were adamant they wanted to go it alone and the last thing they wanted was to be a feeder club for an NRL team. They wanted Wyong jnrs to have a great chance to represent their area and at a high level instead of being denied an opportunity by an NRL clubs reserve graders clogging up the top grade.

Behind probably Tweed Heads and Wests Newcastle, Wyong DRLFC would be the richest club in regional NSW and can easily afford to go it alone in NSW Cup. It now seems we have changed our tune. It's probably the right thing to do so we can remain competitive in NSW Cup but we should be cautious that the Roosters don't overrun our great club and that Wyong can still call the shots on their future moving forward."

                  Thanks Mr Chook

I of course want Easts to flourish but not at the expense of CC Bears, New town or Wyong for that matter.

There should be win wins possible not casualties if things are done right.

There is a greater good of the game and its people in there somewhere.

I think the roos fell on their sword after the nrl said ""no"" to central coast as a new nrl team, but instead would rather another brissy/qld team and perffffff.

There are things in play that give "owning" clubs rights over their juniors. Development fees etc.
                      So it does help.

A couple of points following up good comments from fellow Roosters...

On the "name change" to Sydney City / Sydney Roosters... Never fear dear Roosters fans... Our great club is still and always will be the Eastern Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club! The "Sydney Roosters" is our brand, our trading name, our marketing device, no more no less!

If you want to keep calling the team Easts or Eastern Suburbs, as many do, then keep doing so! In fact since Ted Helliar got on board the place as our COO Commercial, he has listened to Easts fans everywhere and ensured the club initials, ESDRLFC, are on much of our branding insignias and Roosters apparel... Long may this continue, and I'd actually like to see the current Roosters primary logo retained but with the letters ESDRLFC added at the foot of the logo...

On the Central Coast affiliation, I would like to see:

                        1. Easts play 1-2 home games on the Coast again - just not against Newcastle as we always lost to them up there and gave the Knights an advantage by playing closer to their home base. I'd like to see home games against the likes of the Gold Coast, North Queensland and a future Perth team for example, played at Gosford. Roosters season ticket holders would be given free high quality seating as part of our season seat package under this model, or a discount if they "opted out" of the Coast game/s. Definitely no more than 2 games in any season, leaving a minimum of 10 games at the SFS always and forever.

                        2. Importantly, I would like to see the junior league affiliation arrangement made permanent. In the absence of the ARL Commission redrawing all the Sydney club boundaries to give Easts back all the areas we lost to souffs in the 20th century under corrupt officials, the fact is, we need a permanent boost to our junior stocks. The Central Coast is the best and only option. As I said in an earlier post, the Tigers own the vast south-west Sydney junior nursery, and the Dragons own the entire south coast vein of talent. The ESDRLFC business model from this day forward needs to encompass "ownership" of the Central Coast nursery. Over the first few years of this arrangement (I believe it was a five year deal...?)... Easts need to nurture the relationship such that by 2019, the Central Coast Rugby League fraternity and people view Easts as its natural club, and the arrangement is formalized on a permanent basis.

Securing such a permanent partnership would be a very important bulwark in future years against the inevitable moves from other, jealous NRL clubs, who will continue their longstanding campaign of hatred against the ESDRLFC and will always continue to lobby behind the scenes for the Roosters to be expelled from the comp because "we have no juniors".

Trust me, this campaign stalled during the Super League/News Ltd era, but throughout our history our rival Sydney clubs in particular (the usual suspects) have constantly campaigned for us to be kicked out of the comp. I expect this campaign will intensify again in the next few decades, and we need to take whatever long term steps are necessary to insulate ourselves from any claims that we do not deserve a place in the national competition...

Another great post Edge!! I agree with all your posts in this thread!

We should definitely play a trial game at Bluetongue Stadium, and as you said, 1 or 2 NRL games against tits and or cowboys. Our NSW cup Wyong team can play before the main game. I remember we played a double header trial at Bluetongue Stadium back in 2010, and the turnout was great. Should look at doing that again.

I would love for the Wyong team to play at least 4 times at Bluetongue Stadium, which would appeal more to Roosters fans from Sydney to travel up. Also want to see our Wyong team play at least 4 times as the curtain raiser before the Roosters. It would be nice for them to be shown more on fox sports too, than the crappy two times Newtown are shown this year!

We will need to work hard to build an affiliation and unite with the people of the Central Coast. We need to appeal to those who are not already Roosters supporters. Get our best current and former players to go up there, particularly during the off season Nov-Feb and do clinics. During the season do some school clinics.
The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!

                            Here's looking at you, kid.

why should us qlders lose a game. remember they haven't been to the coast now since 2010, and earlier this year up verse the drongos, but prior to that it was finals v drongos in 2010.
just send a inner Sydney team up for the game. wests, dullbogs, parra, merge, riff, etc. leave the outer staters out of it.

but yes a good insight bar the qld teams.

How would you Queenslanders be losing a game , it would be a Roosters home game they would be moving to Gosford ,in other words a game that would have been played at the SFS.
