I have holidays that I could take when I have to go to court. To have to go to court to answer a charge of being drunk would not be an emotional toll on me at 19 years of age. I am now 45 and being married with 2 kids so it would place a toll on me know.

The charges have now been dropped. The other charge in the nightclub has not been decided so I think that he is entitled to a fair trial by the courts. Not by you, not by the media and not be anyone else. The DUI has been dealt with. A LOT of people get busted each and every year and I bet you probably work amongst some of those that have lost their licence in the past. Are they still gainfully employed and doing their job OK?

        he got drunk

        swore at a cop

did not pay a cab fair.

the kid has problems with the drink, no doubt.

In jakes history, he has been charged once with a DUI: action taken, license suspension from Judicial system, standing down and fine by Roosters

charged with assult in a night club: still has to go to court, no charges laid, has not been found guilty.

current incident: charges dropped, punishment still to be decided upon by Roosters.

so basically this kid has been involved in 3 incidences with only 1 charge. If he stays at the club, he needs to learn ................

You think for the Club sit back and do nothing regarding Jake's latest issues is the answer? You can't see a dangerous pattern developing here. After all, he is only 19.

This is not so much about this bloke's football career, it's about his future wellbeing in general.

If he keeps down the same path, there's a chance he will end up doing jail time. And that's in no one's interests.

Bloody hell, talk about an over reaction. He is 19, he is no different to a LOT of 19 year olds. Jail? You judge a bloke and his behaviour by the media? You are being sucked in and you need to chill out a little here.

I don't give a damn that a get players gets on the piss, as long as he plays decent footy. I don't care that a player goes to brothels, as long as he plays decent footy. I don't care that a player takes a piss in a side street, as long as he plays decent footy. I do care that a player gets followed about by the media and is put under a microscope and whenever a story about them gets printed in the paper the public judge them straight away. No waiting to see what unfolds or hear their side of the story.

He is no different to a lot of players of the past. The thing that has changed is the media scrutiny. They have a lot to answer for. If you are looking for a club where all the players are squeeky clean then you might need to follow another code.

If a player breaks the law, is charged and THEN found guilty, then I think I have a right to judge the bloke. Until all of that unfolds then I don't give a toss.

Tell me what his latest "issues" are? He gets on the drink probably more than he should but he is 19. He got done DUI, he has been charged and lost his licence. Dealt with, move on. The issue in the nightclub is pending, no judgement made there as I was not there so can't comment. Maybe you were. The taxi, no charges laid, I guess there was nothing in it.

Tell me about Tiger Woods...hell, I was rooting the guy as well, so add me to the list. I don't give a damn if he rooted a thousand women. It is HIS business and does not detract that he is a bloody good golfer.

              • If you believe this kid's abuse of alcohol is fine then so be it.

To be honest, what the bloke does in his own time is his own business, so long as he does it without bringing shame on the Club and game that he represents. Not to mention his family and friends.

Ask yourself honestly whether he is an asset to the Roosters and the game of rugby league, or a liability.

As for the media scrutiny, it's a fact of life nowdays, especially with mobile phones and the like. It's not like the good old days when a blind eye was turned more often than not.

That won't change, it will only get worse. It comes with the territory of having any type of profile.

                • I don't know if he has a problem with the drink. Do you? Do you go out with him drinking?

When he plays well he is an asset to the club and the game. Honestly I believe that. Joey Johns is a legend but we don't judge him on his problems because he admitted to everything after he quit. By all accounts he was an asshole on the drink. Don't care, would have LOVED him in the team. Would have bought him a carton of drink a week just to have him here. Has he bought the game into disrupte? In some people's eyes maybe, but to me I couldn't give a shit as I loved to watch the guy do what they paid him to do, play footy.

As for the media scrutiny, why should we just accept it? It is only there because people crave it and love to pry on people. Look at all the gossip mags. Take out all the gossip out of the DT and what would you be left with? Half a paper.

You say what he does in his own time is his own business yet you ask for his head when the story comes out before any judgement is made by the law.

We sit here and place judgement on people we have never met, do not know and go off what we read in the paper. I am guilty of that as well. I can judge you by what you have written but if I get too personal, then it is none of my business as I don't know you at all really. This is not an attack on you at all, we are all guilty of it.

I reckon we just need to keep it in perscpective and stop being so precious. If he breaks the law and is found guilty of an offence then go for it. The game has a culture that has been ingrained for many years and now because of the scrutiny of the media they are trying to turn on a pinhead. Can't be done....

I hope Jake gets retained by the Roosters and plays next year.

                  • John, you are entitled to your opinion, just as I am entitled to mine.

But I wonder if you would be so charitable towards Jake if he is kept, when the next time he decides to stuff up is days before Round 1 against the Vermin next year, putting a successful start to the season in jeopardy.

That's the problem with Jake, he is a ticking timebomb and no one can predict when he'll next implode. He's always remorseful after the event, but it doesn't stop him from making the same mistakes.

But if the Club is happy to keep taking those chances with him, then that's their decision in the end. You or I have no control over that.

Personally, I feel the club needs to distance itself from delinquent players. For the sake of the player and support crew moral, sponsors and supporters.

Having said that I'm comfortable with the current coaching roster and administration to deal with this as they see fit.
They have the experience and know the facts better than us.

They keep their positions through making the correct decisions when circumstances like this eventuate. With all these indescretions, it is becomming more important to have an experienced coaching roster.
Thank God we have B Smith's experience.

                        Excellent post.

I'm sick of the do-gooders in today's society.

I was a rat when I was 19 years of age too. Jumping taxis, egging cars, urinating on the street, drink driving, smoking dope, getting into fights...the list goes on.

It's refreshing to see the youth of today still do the same thing!

I laugh at how people take newspaper stories as gospel.

Take a look at the consequences of these actions for a change. Have you noticed we have "NO SPONSOR" whilst a club like the Tigers have two major sponsors. Have you noticed we have "falling memberships". We are a professional sports club, not a friggin pub team. You might wanna spent over 50 dollars per game on a pub team but others certainly don't.

That's another thing you just don't get. Off field lack of discipline equals on field lack of discipline. The two worse off field offended are Cronulla and Us. Fargin massive coincidence that these teams finished 15th and 16th respectively, isn't it? League is all about discipline. A thing you and your like minded drones will never understand. You would think a cold hard wooden spoon would wake a few ppls up, obviously not all
