Friend wouldn't be on too much surely? I say keep him, heavily fine him, but he doesn't see a game of first grade this year... perhaps not a game at all. Stays off the drink for a year. Can train with the team but doesn't get a run.
Teach him a lesson the hard way rather than just cutting him where he can play elsewhere (mind you I doubt the NRL would let him play elsewhere this year?).

Hit him where it will hurt him most.. his ego.. Dump him & the NRL will de-register him. Lets see how he survives with park footy & no contract...
