I disagree - why do you think he couldn't afford the cab fare?

I agree Big Fella. The Club needs to stop using 'talent' as an excuse for keeping badly behaved players who don't give a shit about the reputation of the club they play for and represent.

Does Friend care more about the Roosters than he does the drink?? Obviously not, as he has no problem bringing shame on the club because of it.

Will Friend's behaviour improve if given another chance?? I doubt it, given the chances he's already been given.

None of us would be secure in our employment if we had been arrested 3 times in nine months for alcohol related incidents.

          • If I got arrested for not paying a cab driver and getting into a blue outside of work hours, I wouldn't get sacked. Not sure if they could legally sack me.

It would depend what is in your contract - I am sure there might be a line about behavior in his contract that talks about both on field and off field

I know my contract states I agree to a police check annually and can be dismissed should anything that could harm the image of our company be present I can be sacked.

              • that depends on whether he identified himself as a contracted player with the roosters, if so he brought the clubs name into disrepute and may then be sacked after his earlier warnings?

What about if you already had form by being arrested for DUI and also assault? Surely your employer's patience would be running out.

Any employer wouldn't just take one indiscretion in isolation, they would be looking at your previous history.

All NRL contracts have behavourial clauses in their contracts as a matter of course. So there is no need for any warning - it is in the bloody contract that all players sign believe it or not.

If the players don't want to sign the contract with the clauses in it, they don't play in the NRL, simple as that.

That's why the NRL can overrule the Clubs on the issue, because they've breached their NRL contract terms.

I can see where you're coming from but in my view it is supporters and the media that constantly talk these guys up and it is from here that their egos grow. They feel invincible. The club is clearly to blame also, but so too is the general culture of league. I certainly don't like making excuses for 20 year olds, but if we as a club and as supporters gave this bloke the ego, then why should we just kick him out on the street? Players know they can get kicked out of a club and there will be others in the wings. Take away what he craves most. First grade football. Take it away for a year, get him working a 60 hour week like plenty in the real world do and teach him a lesson that way.

Freddy was found blind drunk on the steps of a police station and I'm sure this is nothing compared to what players of old got up to.

                        Just a thought.

I am not sure why it would be any of their business. As long as my private live does not disrupt my work then I don't think they would complain. Mind you I don't have a team of reporters waiting to pounce on anything I might do so I would not bring the company into disrepute.

You don't think court appearances might disrupt your work?? It's not just about the charges themselves, it's about the time and emotional toll that goes into the process afterwards that leads up to and includes the various court appearances.
