Just an update on the friend fiasco from a close friend of mine.

Charges have been dropped by the Maroubra Police.

The Football club board will meet on thursday night, desicion on Jakes future on friday.

According to sources, Jake did have the money to pay for a cab, when he awoke from his "peaceful slumber" he had 3 cops in his face and swore hence why he was charged with using offensive language.

By the sounds of it, all he did was take a nap in the back of a cab. Hardly a crime. I hope the taxi driver is sacked.

Actually OVP, the cabbie was well within his rights to go to the police to ask for assistance.

I am not condoning him getting pissed beyond recongnition and getting himself in that position.

and so the truth is finally surfacing, noyce mature mngt strategy is showing its worth? maroubra police dropping charges confirmed that anyone would be startled when awakened from a deep slumber by police! we need to be firm but fair!

Well that changes things eh.. makes it a bit more tricky.. our new stance has to be hard but still fair.

How drunk must he have been if the taxi driver couldn't wake him, so took him to the police station and then they had trouble waking him. You can't blame the cops for attempting to wake him up!!

It's not the cop's or the taxi driver's fault that Jake was so pissed he didn't know whether he had money or not and so didn't immediately offer to pay and resolve the situation at the time, and instead abused everyone.

He should be thankful the taxi driver didn't look for his wallet, take its contents and dump him on the side of the road, it's not as if he would have realised it at the time.

The cab driver did the right thing, as did the cops. The only one who didn't was Jake Friend.

if this is a trial by media, then he is already sacked.

Lets look at the facts.

1) he got pissed off his nut
2) he got in a cab and fell asleep
3) Cabbie went to the cop shop for assistance
4) when he awoke and was confronted by police, he swore
5) he refused to pay the cab fair.
6) charges have now been droped by the police.

Do we still sack him considering paul gallen only got a $10,000 fine for pissing on someones head?

NO we put an addendum to his contract re alcohol consumption, we get him training with the 20s and continue to mentor the kid when possible and we lkeep him away from willie and pearce

SM, you can't really compare Gallen with Friend, as to my knowledgde Gallen does not have two prior police charges.

As I've said before, you can't take this incident in isolation, you have to look at his prior history.

At the moment, if it turns out the charges are dropped and he isn't sacked, I would be looking at giving him at a suspension to start 2010 - say 4 weeks of the NRL season. No NYC - just no footy. No trials, no nothing. He can return in week 5 of the NRL.

And needless to say, he must be forced to particapate in further alcohol and anger management counselling before being able to play any form of football.

Gallen is a grub of the highest order, and I wold hazard a guess as to say that it is NOT his first misdemenour, just the first one YOU have heard about.....One does not become a slimy filthbag like Gallen overnight......and Pissing on someones head if ASSULT.....far worse that using bad language to a cop.....

He ****ed up........yes and he will most likely be sacked, and with good cause, but when people like you have already hung him without the facts it makes the medias job oh so damned easy.....

You don't change a culture if there are no repercussions for your actions. If this was a first offense sure a slap on the wrist is fine but this is three in one season. The guy is a moron and like Myles they just don't seem to learn.

We have all these players coming through the ranks that need to know what will happen if they play up Friend has had enough chances he is obviously too dumb to realise

agree billy, i think the last part should read " he is too dumb not to get caught" the are others far worse that fly under the radar alomost on a daily basis.

I don't have patience with blokes who consistently bring shame on our club. Especially the repeat offenders.

I have nothing against those players who actually have a little respect for the colours they represent.

Friend has been treated extremely well by the Roosters, but keeps stuffing up. Which means he is not learning from his mistakes.

I agree that Gallen is a grub, but most of his misdomeaners haven't led to police charges. He's been charged by the NRL a number of times, but I doubt the NRL can saction him for that alone.

The fact is that Friend has been arrested 3 times in less than a year. And having supported this bloke after two of them, as a supporter I'm extremely pissed off that he continues to act like a selfish, arrogant twit who cares about no one but himself, despite having a lot of time, money and effort spent on him.

And I'll treat any other player who brings as much shame on the Club as Jake has the same way.
