  • Too true Phantom, it's the Club who makes the decisions, not the supporters.

And the Club will not please all supporters with whatever decisions it makes.

Just as with recruitment and retention, the supporters have their opinions and the Club has theirs on behavour issues.

And, perhaps unfortunately, in all decisions, it's not a matter of 'majority rules'. The Club rules alone.

Which is what makes it so bloody frustrating sometimes. Or it does for me anyway.

    • JT i wish you did not delete your post because you are close to spot on.

Friend has been sacked by the club...........

      But

If Smith sees a marked improvement through counselling.

The Friend saga may not be over, hopefully it has a happy ending.

Friend in need - Roosters look at lifeline for troubled hookerBRAD WALTER
        December 18, 2009
TROUBLED Sydney Roosters hooker Jake Friend is set to be thrown a lifeline by the club even if he has his contract torn up, as expected.

Friend, who was charged by police last weekend for the third time in the past eight months, has been stood down indefinitely by the club while management decides what action to take against the promising teenager. Among the options understood to have been considered by the club is suspending Friend for up to 12 months.

Friend is alleged to have acted aggressively towards police when woken in a taxi following a boozy night out and refusing to pay the fare. It was his third brush with the law following a charge of assault in a nightclub incident just days after he was convicted of drink-driving.

As a result, he is likely to have the three-year contract he signed in August torn up.

However, senior figures at the club think it would not be in Friend's best interests to cut him loose completely and are considering a plan to help him turn his life around before he is allowed to return to the playing field. It is likely he would be placed on an alcohol ban, as all three incidents that have occurred after boozy nights.

If he complies with the proposal, it is understood Friend could rejoin the club - although possibly not until the next off-season. The Roosters are thought to have considered banishing him to the bush to find a job and play park football for the season, as Todd Carney did this year in North Queensland. However, it was felt Friend would be better off remaining closer to the club so officials could monitor his progress.

Friend is 19 and officials think he should be given another opportunity to save his career. But he must accept he has a drinking problem and agree to counselling.

If he does and proves to the club he has overcome his problems, Friend will be allowed to return to the Roosters, although possibly not until the end of the next season.

Roosters officials believe the hooker's issues are mainly alcohol-related and say he has been extremely remorseful on each occasion.

But another transgression would almost certainly put paid to Friend's career, as he has already cost himself the chance to play in England due to his conviction for drink-driving, which followed a team bonding session in April.

He has separate court appearances scheduled for next month on the assault charge, which stemmed from an incident at The Tank nightclub in which the niece of ABC radio commentator David Morrow claimed she was punched, and last weekend's taxi incident.

        • The above sounds fair and reasonable to me, now it's time for Jake to man up and accept it.

That is a good thing as three incidents in one year deserved this response.
