  • 6th Tackle Options?

Still terribly poor in this area. I think one of the biggest errors in the game these days is kicking it dead or your kick getting caught on the full in goal. 7 tackles from the 20m restart is a huge bonus and usually results in the opposition being in postion for an attacking last option play, instead of working it off there own line. Why on the last tackle if we are in postion must we hit Maloney or Pearce as the second man out the back then kick?? This makes it infinitely harder to score of a grubber or to get a repeat set. We hit the front man once i think, Maloney, and Cordner was able to score, worst case was a repeat set. Dont complicate it, yes I undestand you will have variations on the last play,, but hit the 6 or 7 from Jake, have your FPN/Cordner running there lines to hold the defenders off the kicker plus provide an option, and put it along the ground. I know its only Holden Cup, and yes its a putrid standard of football, but Hastings is already showing he has a kicking game only a certain few could dream of.

Our 6th tackle options were 100x better than Penrith's yesterday

Typically speaking in the lead up to an attacking grubber you want to bring the defence up, which explains what you question about 'why hit Pearce/Maloney second of the ruck'. I think, and they showed yesterday, that Maloney at very worst has a good short kicking game, I think we fall down on this all out attack mentality. It's like in the heat of the moment they don't recognise the value of making a repeat set your focus (patience).

Even a poorly executed short kick aimed for a restart results in nothing worse than a team having to go 95m to score.

We either scored or came close when in the red zone, and come out of our own end the options were ok. I'd like to see Friend employ the occasional chip and chase or kick in behind the line mid field with Mini Pearce Maloney pushing up..

The first kick by Maloney was terrible.

After that our kicking game was well above the usual.

Are we still talking about this???

After last season leading the attacking stats, backing it up again this season leading the attacking stats, we need more repeat sets???

Next we will be carrying on about lost penalty counts when we win but winning penalty counts when we lose.

Not worth talking about ? Better let the coach and players know they have been wasting their time addressing this. I guess your saying the team has no room for improvement in this area?

So we can improve our attacking dominance???

Every team can improve but we have dominated the attacking stats for 18 months and all we can find is a solitary stat we don't lead, repeat sets.

I recall last year when it was floated we scored more than any side in the red zone. I guess it's a similar pattern this season.

So as I asked last year, I will ask again. What stat would you prefer we lead the comp in???

I'd just prefer if we were leading the comp! By scoring more points, perhaps even off the last tackle, we could be. Do you not agree?

I definately don't like giving 7 tackles away.

So if it comes down to it I'd rather us run it on the last near the line. Giving the opposition the ball 2 metres out from their own line is much better than giving away 7 tackles from the 20.

I guess it's just how we all view the game differently.

All good. Agree that running it on the last is a better option than a poor kick.
