My understanding with the draft system from the NFL is that it's pretty hard to equate junior talent (ie College football) to senior's (NFL).

Tim Tebow was the Heisman Trophy winner (best in college football) as quarterback, but cannot get a start even amongst the dud teams.

There's been countless quarterbacks who weren't first draft picks who became legends in the NFL - eg Montanna

Great Juniors does not mean great seniors.

We have the salary cap - why introduce this ridiculous system??

It's not as if the draft works in the AFL.

Melbourne, Richmond, Western Bulldogs and even Carlton have been ordinary for a long time.

The big clubs always get the best players.

Would they also include a father-son rule like the AFL does.. So that way players like Jackson Hastings could join the Roosters without having to enter the draft..
