  • Ricky's presser rant puts all off contract rep stars on alert should we be concerned

check out todays press conference rant from Ricky Stuart, he basically said the reason the Raiders are struggling is they don't have any rep stars (stating the obvious really), and they won't start winning until they sign some rep stars.

    https://www.nrl.com/rd-23-press-conf...3/default.aspx

they are going to have a massive war chest and are able to start signing letters of intent come November 1, for the 2016 season.

with Guerra/Maloney/JWH/Tupou/SKD all off contract come off contract at the end of 2015

I know Canberra is hardly a destination of choice but there is only so much money a player can turn down given their short careers.

there is nothing stopping Stuart getting Guerra/Maloney/JWH into a room in the off season and handing out 4yr $800k p/a contracts to each of them to help with the rebuild, would be hard of those guys to turn down a $3 million dollar offer.

He is a idiot. Maloney, guerra, tupou weren't rep players before last year. You need to develop players. They have talent but no leader.

True, they could indeed all sign with the Raiders.

Before they do they could always ask Justin Hodges and other ex-Roosters about Stuart and his coaching style.

agree he is not the full quid, but history says he never develops players he only goes out and and tries to buy them.

the Raiders are going to have such a huge amount of cap space with the likes of Milford gone, White retiring, Campo will be gone by 2016 as will Shillo, it is possible that they have $4 million space to go wild for 2016, some players will reject the money but without doubt they will nab some players.

fingers crossed we lock up Guerra ASAP as he would be the number 1 backrower coming off contract heading into 2016 and would be a great building block for a club.

Nobody wants to play under Ricky...
His teams win about 5 games a year...

I'd be okay with SKD, JWH and Maloney leaving. By 2016 Maloney will be coming towards the end of his career so I'd be reluctant to offer him one last big contract at the expense of some of our youngsters like Evans and Hastings. SKD is far too much of a liability with his hands and defensive lapses, while JWH is a penalty magnet, and it's awfully hard to change perceptions.

Very disrespectful to JWH who was a massive part in us winning the comp last year.

The more I see of Ricky Stuart coaching, the greater respect Ihave for the late great Muzza Murray. He had a huge influence on 02.

He's got some great potential talent in the squad as Canberra youth systems always inevitably produce but absolutely squandered it this year.

The development & progression of players like Jack Wighton, Paul Vaughan, Cornish & Shannon Boyd in the senior side has been next to non-existent.

He's been trying to buy 'rep talent' all year and ended up with a winger & 2 players from England. I wouldn't be too concerned, I'd honestly be surprised if he he's not sacked before the end of next year.

Player managers didn't need that presser to know that they can get massive overs if they can talk one of their rep players into going there. But it's easier said than done. And the more that turn their back on Canberra the harder it is.

The press conference was all about buying himself some time. And I don't think it will work. He will be gone next season and won't get another gig.
