            listening to Pearce just then on triplem, the players have no idea just how serious Jake's condition is, it will hit the team like a tonne of bricks once they realise just how serious the situation is.

              You beat me to it! My family just went through this last week with someone who had a bleeding ulcer and it was unable to be stopped for ages. It's distressing, frightening and draining. This is Jake's first surgery and his parents are up in Noosa so it would be nice if people could not put the burden of expecting him to back on the field within 3 weeks or 2 weeks or whatever is currently 'trending' on stupid social media. Who cares about effing trophies when the young man is in the intensive care ward?

                Well said. I'm sure we are all disappointed in what this means for our B2B chances, but the most important outcome is Jake's health.

                    Get well soon Jake.

                    Footy doesn't matter right now.

                    What awful news.

                      Jake will be fine, the operation is a simple procedure. he will be monitored for the next 48hrs with a drain fitted then further monitoring over a few days with the drain removed, no need to get worried..

                        I'm no doctor, but I can't see how anyone who's as sick as Jake is today can possibly be playing NRL again this season. [hopefully he'll play footy again]

                        So, the team must play on without him.
                        A replacement has to be found, and new tactics devised.
                        It's Monday soon and the match against Souths is on Thursday.
                        In Trent we trust.

                          You're as tough as they come Jake, I'm saddened by your injury and hope for a speedy recovery.

                            It's amazing how something like this puts footy into perspective.

                            The boys will be so down today after the high of last night.

                            They're such a close knit group and this will knock the stuffing out of them until Jake's prognosis is 100% positive.

                              It's the psychological damage that this type of injury causes, he should be rested without any thought of football. But I bet being the tough bugger he is and his competitive nature, he will be pushing the doctors, club and family to allow him up and at them.

                                It sounds very serious to me;

                                Best case scenario is that the patient makes it to advanced medical care (ie, on a surgical table) in less than an hour, and the intial cause of bleeding is repaired. With moderate blood loss, adequate IV fluid resuscitation and a chest tube in (to drain the residual floor/fluid and ensure the lung stays inflated), a patient can wake up within hours of the surgery in the ICU and be relatively fine. Their breathing would not be 100% for awhile and they'd be in quite a bit of pain, but aside from a scar, there'd be no lasting effects.

                                Worst case scenario (assuming they make it out of surgery) can go one of two ways - the blood loss would have been too great/the bleeding restarts (you can bleed out nearly all your blood into a lung cavity) and the medical staff can't get fluids/blood back in fast enough, and they die of blood loss/heart failure.
