After Matai's shoulder charge last week, I too have NFI how to apply the rule.

It's definitely a mix of both. You'll notice in all instances he keeps separation between the arm and body which is one of the NRL's guidelines so he's definitely conscious about it and Robbo has brought it up numerous times that he's often unfairly penalised. This will be the Roosters defence when they go in to challenge it. If they apply the ruling to the letter of the law then he'll get off, however the shoulder charge definition seems to have progressed far from that criteria based on precedents set by the judiciary & MRC, it really wouldn't surprise me if he does cop a week or 2 in the end.

Wrapping the arm around is not mentioned in the criteria at all & just proves my point as to how far the rule has progressed despite the laws of the game never actually changing. No one actually understands what the NRL's definition of the shoulder charge is & that includes the judiciary & MRC.

This will sound odd via a forum, but if the hitting arm is raised and infront of the shoulder being used, it will not be deemed a shoulder charge.

I love the shoulder charge, but I see the concern with head contact. I would allow it, but any head contact by the shoulder is a minimum 6week suspension. Roll the dice.

The MRC owe us a downgrade after ricko got sat out for Freddie's farewell against the dogs thanks to that grub Nathan fien. Cost is the title as we needed up using Stuart Webb. Such bullshit.

As far as I remember fien was roughing up Freddy on the ground towards the end of the game and ricko clipped him with an open hand. He was standing up for our captain. As far as I can remember he didn't deserve it and fien definitely would the grub but we are going back 10 years.

Napa is one of my favourites (just like LOD & Morls). If you try to tame them you change their whole effectiveness.

Have a look at the opposition when Napa is in our side. They are keeping one eye on the "mad mother".
It puts them off their game just knowing he "could" put one on them.

When you play teams like Manly, Melbourne and their mini me poor imitations Souths, all the rules go out the window and you have to take it up a notch and fight fire with fire, otherwise they would just walk all over us.
