NRL's notorious bad boy Todd Carney and a friend are accused of burning a man's buttocks, scrotum and upper thigh, after deliberately setting his pants on fire, the Seven Network reports.
The newly-signed Sydney Roosters footballer had been holidaying with mates at Airlie Beach in north Queensland when the alleged incident occurred.
Proserpine Hospital confirmed a man was admitted for burns on New Year's Day.
Queensland Police have also confirmed the injuries, but say they will only investigate if the victim makes a formal complaint.
There's no suggestion the attack was malicious but Carney has an infamous past.
The 23-year-old former Canberra Raiders player has been convicted for drink-driving, arrested after a high-speed police chase, charged with malicious damage, accused of urinating on a man at a Canberra nightclub, and even been banned from his home town of Goulburn.
The Raiders sacked him, and just as it looked like his career could be all but over, the Roosters offered him a lifeline.
Carney is due to take the field in the next few weeks, pending the result of an inquiry now underway at the club
Channel Nein reported it is a "prank gone wrong" and said "a friend of Todd Carney's was involved in an incident where a man's thighs were burned" or words to that effect.
Now, IF Todd was actually involved and IF he is found to be responsible, either partially or completely, surely that means he's finished at the Roosters.
i hate this crap !!! if he was "involved" then the kid needs his head read and maybe another year up at Atherton !
If he is only guilty by association, i.e. his friend was the one flaming people, then the media need to really get their act into gear !!!

At a football club, there’s a holy trinity – the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don’t come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques.

The fireworks at the Easter show are making more noise than the crowd tonight
Yes Todd, how dare you have fun. We, The Media, are controlling the sheep to be like a world full of Rupert Murdochs ie dull, boring and uninteresting. NO FUN IS ALLOWED here Todd. If ye wish to have fun, may I suggest moving to a new planet. This is Planet Murdoch and all the sheep are just like him.

well i expected braith to be at 5/8 anyway, if this is too much of a beat up then there is a concerted effort to discredit the roosters at every opportunity? we've probably been looking a bit too sharp training under smithers? not allowed for the roosters to threaten melbourne or brisbane?
