Depends on when the Essendon deal was signed, it may be a legacy deal.

Has their contract with Essendon expired and been renewed? If not, then they would have little choice but to remain as Essendon's major sponsor.

in 2008 they upgraded from being a minor sponsor to major sponsor for 2009-2011 inclusive. So yes, the deal was already done

Having said that, you are on another planet if you don't think the constant bad press played a part in the decision to bail out of Easts.

Even Noyce said: "Obviously they spoke about the player behaviour. On the field, it's been a disappointing year - off the field it's been extremely disappointing. We've just got to work harder and smarter."

I think you will find that the club new many months before anyone was told that Samsung would not be renewing their sponsorship for the 2010 season. As much as we all think it was just the bad behaviour there were a lot of other factors involved so we should also be aware of this and stop believing what the media constantly throw at us as the only truth.
Our performances on the field also did not help our cause!

Why has the club been unable to find a sponsor since this time? Not hard to work out why..

Who said they have not found a sponsor?
They may well have a sponsor and will not or are not allowed at this time to announce it.

The joint leaks like a freakin sieve - if there was a new sponsor news of it would be out there, whether or not it was meant/allowed to be.

Why would they not want to announce it.. The club would want it announced ASAP so they could start selling the merchandise with the sponsor on it.. It is bad for sales when the sponsor is not on the merchandise... Also for the sponsor, the sooner they are announced, the sooner they get value from their name being on the club merchandise.

Far be it for me to defend them, but it has not been the ideal time to be hawking your wares with corporates over the last couple of years. Getting a new deal with a new company would have been nigh on impossible unless they gave the jersey away (ala Camp Quality and the Bulldogs) or significantly compromised.

Even if Myles, Mason, Friend and co had solved world hunger, cured cancer and bought peace to the middle east, they would have lost Samsung as a sponsor.

I do have some direct insight into what they are going through and it has been a combination of the global economy and the poor image of the NRL in general which has impacted the ability of the NRL clubs to get sponsors. One club has left their sponsor's name on the jersey so that "it doesn't look bad".

My original point, which I stand by, was that Samsung would have been committed elsewhere and walked away because of other factors. The bad press only looks like it was vindicated.

That's right and they reluctantly stayed on for last year after the Roosters dropped their price and managed to squeeze one more year out of them. They were not going to go round again definitely regardless of where the Roosters finished or what happened off the field. That was told to me from someone within Samsung.

No doubt it's a tough time for businesses, and perhaps the first thing to get the chop in tough times are difficult to measure things like sponsorships.

Having said that, Samsung now have no presence within the premier sporting code in NSW and QLD. League has issues with off field behaviour, but in terms of popularity, the NRL is firing. I remember reading something like over Xmas day and Boxing Day the most watched program on Foxtel australia wide was one of those NRL classic matches from 1999 - coincidentally the Roosters v Penrith

But I do agree with what you say about times being tough. Again though, when announcing the loss of Samsung, Noyce did say "Of course they mentioned player behaviour"

I note the Corporate Sales Mgr's job at the Roosters is being advertised. You weren't the incumbent were you?

That latest is that witnesses tell how the victim, a friend of carneys who was staying with him and 2 others begged them to call an ambulance for him but called a cab instead so as not to run his reputation.......

Me thinks its far too late for that scoop....

airlie beach is like an insular kings cross, full of drugs, sex and booze, and theres no getting away from it. its popular amongst young people and backpackers, not really the sort of place a guy trying to rebuild his reputation and responsibly consume alcohol would/should go for new years! even if he is innocent, grow a brain mate, stay home, have some mates over and keep out of the public eye for 5 minutes.
