  • Mini / SKD controversy

Mini runs through clear of the defender's outside shoulder. SKD still 2-3 metres away. It is the defender who makes the mistake and dives in an attempt to tackle Mini without the ball.

The issue is that you're not allowed to run behind your own man/decoy runner.

Had SKD passed to sometime before running behind Mini then it would have been fine.

I still think that was an obstruction, but we needed something to go our way getting farked over so mny times before.

Not the rule. You are allowed to run behind if the decoy is already through the defensive line without obstructing defenders.

You are drawing a long bow dice. He wasnt thru the defensive line at all. It was a shepherd and we got a break. And u know what..the most penalised team in the comp bloody deserves a break.

Penalty every day of the week.

Made up for the forward pass that lead to the Cowboys 2nd try.

Mini already in the defensive line, SKD still 3m away. Mini through by the time SKD runs behind.

If that a penalty any day of the week then please explain the 2014 interpretation of the rule.

How is this even up for discussion?

The two defenders were impeded from making a tackle at SKD in which he took an advantage by running around Mini. Sheperd all week long.

All that matters is we were incredibly lucky not to get penalised.

                  Who was impeded?

Everyone sure it is a shepherd but nobody can explain the rule.

If that's the case, then any team that plays the dogs should get a penalty. I believe that mini went through the line by the time skd crossed behind him.

But then a while later the Cowboys did the same thing

It should've been a penalty and we got lucky. Move on

I am still waiting on the experts who are 100% certain it should have been a penalty to explain the rule. How far through the defensive line does Mini have to be before SKD can run behind him? 1m? 2m? 20m?

Past it I would imagine. It looks worse cause the defender mistakenly commits to mini. Skd is nowhere near the line of defence who are all hanging back anyway.

Just had a look through the Nrl rule book (google is wonderful) and the old Shepard rule doesn't exist. A penalty is only give if a player was prevented from making a tackle by the decoy. Simply because you ran behind your own player doesn't make it an obstruction anymore. You see similar every week
