If you say so. Unlike you i can see the bigger picture, it is better to lose one game that the whole season being a mess.

Carney previous running game was good because teams didn't know whether he was gonna run or pass. As a runner only at fullback he will be very predictable.

Sounds like you don't like the idea yourself. Either your a fence sitter or perhap just like to be a sheep and go with the establishment all the time.
Jaryd Hayne 2009 stats at fullback

      19 games
      93 kicks

Never claimed to be the greatest mathematician but reckon that's more than 2 times a game.

Yeh I do hate the idea, when Carney signed I said it was a stupid signing because Braith is not a lock and I knew it'd come down to this. Braith has done nothing to lose his position and we've gone out and blown 300k? on a 5/8 when we're short on quality props and centres. We bought him just for the sake of buying him.

I'm not sitting on the fence just can acknowledge where Smith is coming from as it will suit his game but I can also acknowledge why people don't want to see him there and I agree although you can't just leave him out of the team and I don't reckon he's anymore out of place at fullback than Anasta would be at lock.

        Correct weight.

Let's face it, we've got no option.

They played to the gameplan and did it exceptionally. The coaches made no adjustments hence why it stopped working. As for losing our heads at the end of the season I can point the finger at a dozen or so players before I point out our halves. Anasta was devastating down the left side before our whole squad capitulated.

At no stage during his tenure with the Roosters has Anasta's attack ever been "devastating". Not once. If you actually think that, God only knows how you'd describe the plays put on by people like Thurston, Prince, Hayne etc etc etc.

The lack of penetration in the Roosters backline demands that some opportunities are created by the halves. And not just lucky opportunities from kicks.

It's no good saying "keep Anasta at 5/8 because he hasn't had the players outside him", because he still doesn't

Do you remember Anasta and Pearce making many line breaks themselves and stepping the Fullback to score? That's the sort of stuff Carney can do. Having 2 slow halves, one who cannot pass the ball left to right makes us extremely predictable.. I consider Pearce and Anasta a competent middle of the road halves pairing, we need more than that with our backline. I think Carney would give us the edge in the halves we need.

My theory is this.. Anasta will be gone at the end of 2010, the plan constructed by POS is to sign Kieran Foran and have him play at 6 in 2011, hence moving Carney to Fullback to accomodate Foran moreso than Anasta.
                  ...

So you must be thinking we will have the Foran brothers as our halves pairing at that time then

I can't see that happening. Liam Foran though is training as the clubs backup hooker supposedly so we may well see him used off the bench this season and with James Aubusson's contract up at seasons end, who knows.

His combo with Tupou throughout 2008 was nothing short of it and at the back end of 2007 with Monas it was certainly blossoming into something very nice. How quickly some forget.

Tries off kicks, to be so cynical to the point of blindness is nothing short of annoying.

It seems that the only way a player can get recognition from you is if he wins the dally m, a premiership and a golden boot. Nobody is comparing him to thurston or even hayne (who I think is a little overrated) however there are some great positives about Braith especially considering that he is playing in a terrible system. Through that golden run we had, everyone was on his nutsack from other players and ex players to various league experts. It even led to him playing origin even though many people have him on the outer in that regard.

..... But hey if Internet experts think otherwise then he really must be THAT poor.

Who was that NFL coach with this great quote - 'the day you start listening to the people in the stand is the day you will be sitting with them' ?

I think the statement was Backup Hooker/Halfback!!!

Carney at Fullback - I think that the game has started to change the last couple of years, where you saw Slater, Hunt and Gidley often be used as a second playmaker. I think Smith will use Carney to do this as well, the benefit being that he is better than those stated above, and as such we should have a bit of success, I expect to see Mini on the end of a lot of Carney grubbers as the year progresses.

Anasta - He is a ballplayer, IF our pack can hardenthe****up, which I expect it too, this creates a bit of TIME, and then Smith will get some guys running into holes, ie Cherro, Symonds, then Anasta will go alright.

BUT GIVE THEN SOME TIME, ie 10 WEEKS.

Now that you are an stats expert why don't you take a look at how many kicks the top 5/8th do per game. Try Soward on for size, then just maybe you might realize that 5/8ths, halfs and hookers do the kicking. Hayne only kicks or chips off the cuff, not as a playmaker kicker. We will lose most of Carney's general kicking skills at fullback.

As for Anasta, he has played lock many times for the dogs before and the modern 5/8th plays very similar to modern locks so that is not a big change. Unlike a 5/8th moving to fullback, and one who has never played there in first grade before. Massive difference.
