Funnily enough, same God though. That's the bit that always kinda freaks me out - ya gotta think if the God they all believe in is real and is watching, he must be a little perlexed by all the infighting.

Suppose you're at the ground with couple of Roosters fans who you know very well and are of Middle Eastern background and for some reason they do something with the phone like this guys were doing but it was an innocent act. the police come because someone else called them saying this guys looked and acted suspiciously. If they are put through the embarrassment of being questioned, which some people are, would you feel bad for them and act to protect them and probably try to intervene on their behalf ? or would you just accept their treatment because you think its OK for them to go through this just to protect your family.
I think it's a fine line of what is acceptable behaviour from the police and hopefully their training and attitude allows them to identify those that are out to hurt people without offending the innocent.

Yes it is a very fine line One so fine that in reality people must expect that the poilice will get this wrong a lot more than they get it right By understanding and begrudgingly accepting this will lead to everyone being just that little bit safer and people not slipping through the net I would rather the public and police got it wrong 100 out of 101 times on this if that means the 1 act is snuffed out due to it

I'm not sure what your ethnic bg is but if you were of middle eastern and an honest hardworking person who loves his team, this time the Roosters, and it happened that some policeman/woman was aggressively questioning you about something you're carrying, would you not only feel somewhat angry of being profiled as a possible terrorist? Please don't tell me the police aren't aggressive because I have seen them at times being excessive in their use of force. Anyway, to say that 'I'm ok about those that look like terrorists, but aren't, to have to suffer the humiliation of being singled out in public.' Like said, it's a fine line. It could even cause more problems.

No I wouldnt be happy and I would let them know as well. However I see the bigger picture here, according to this thread someone has reported people for suspicious behavour and the police have acted, like they should in this day and age. Would you rather they dont act when the general public reports suspicious behavour just because there probably wont be anything in it ?

I'm not referring to the article. I wasn't there, I'm referring to what some say that it's OK to have these measures to prevent an attack. Of course, most likely they have a European look or more like it not Arabic so they wont be subjected to any form of questioning but the innocent Middle eastern fan has to cop it. I think we should show some sensitivity to them and not jump to the conclusion that if they look like a terrorist, they must be or should happily accept that they have to go through this. Don't forget that most of the 911 terrorist had shaved themselves prior to the attacks. Anyway that's my opinion.

Any 'innocent Middle Eastern fan" who in some way is the subject of 'these measures' and is outraged...needs to blame those of his 'race'/'community' who have brought the 'spotlight' to him/her.

Three football fans said they were "furious and humiliated" after being detained at a rugby league match for using their mobile telephones in a manner an onlooker deemed suspicious.

If I were a man or woman of 'Middle Eastern appearance' I'd be putting my phone in my bag at sporting events...at least for the time being.
Or the camera part of it anyway.
...while mumbling verbal abuse at those of my 'race'/'community' who had made it necessary.

bondi-boy's best mate is of 'Middle Eastern' appearance [Lebanese Christian]...hair no longer black, but a nice shade of grey.

According to Nine, just now, those allegations have now been dropped.

Oh give it a rest BB. I'm a woman of Middle Eastern appearance. If I 'have to put my phone away' it's because it's not a fashionable Smartphone nor iphone...I'd probably cause a stir for using a 2005 Nokia..

The average Muslim terrorist doesn't look like Osama Bin Deadshit, he looks "normal" so he won't get profiled.

Three Arabian looking fellows with a phone aren't the problem.
