Suppose you're at the ground with couple of Roosters fans who you know very well and are of Middle Eastern background and for some reason they do something with the phone like this guys were doing but it was an innocent act. the police come because someone else called them saying this guys looked and acted suspiciously. If they are put through the embarrassment of being questioned, which some people are, would you feel bad for them and act to protect them and probably try to intervene on their behalf ? or would you just accept their treatment because you think its OK for them to go through this just to protect your family.
I think it's a fine line of what is acceptable behaviour from the police and hopefully their training and attitude allows them to identify those that are out to hurt people without offending the innocent.

Please don't tell me the police aren't aggressive because I have seen them at times being excessive in their use of force. Anyway, to say that 'I'm ok about those that look like terrorists, but aren't, to have to suffer the humiliation of being singled out in public.' Like said, it's a fine line. It could even cause more problems. When you trust your television

However I see the bigger picture here, according to this thread someone has reported people for suspicious behavour and the police have acted, like they should in this day and age. Would you rather they dont act when the general public reports suspicious behavour just because there probably wont be anything in it ?

Originally posted by ROC181 View PostI'm not referring to the article. I wasn't there, I'm referring to what some say that it's OK to have these measures to prevent an attack. Of course, most likely they have a European look or more like it not Arabic so they wont be subjected to any form of questioning but the innocent Middle eastern fan has to cop it. I think we should show some sensitivity to them and not jump to the conclusion that if they look like a terrorist, they must be or should happily accept that they have to go through this. Don't forget that most of the 911 terrorist had shaved themselves prior to the attacks. Anyway that's my opinion.

Three football fans said they were "furious and humiliated" after being detained at a rugby league match for using their mobile telephones in a manner an onlooker deemed suspicious.

If I were a man or woman of 'Middle Eastern appearance' I'd be putting my phone in my bag at sporting events...at least for the time being.
Or the camera part of it anyway.
...while mumbling verbal abuse at those of my 'race'/'community' who had made it necessary.
