  • The Big Three

Watching that 2000 Knights semi made me ponder what were the three most enjoyable matches I have seen as an Easts fan. Surprisingly, they are all in recent memory and none of them are grand finals. There were other great games (especially in the early-80's, 1987 and the Gould years) but none come close to these. I remember almost passing out at all three.

    In order:

    1. Major Semi v Knights in 2000.

    2. Major Semi v Bulldogs in 2003.

    3. Semi v Tigers in 2010.

    Ah, the memories.

2002 prelim against the broncos - tight all game, edge of the seat and (a bit like this week) the grand final a week early.

The atmosphere walking out of the ground was awesome too.

My favourites aren't grand finals either funnily enough:

      1. Round 26 last year out at ANZ against Souths - the shrieking screaming vermin girls behind us silenced into oblivion was worth the 4 hour round trip for me.
      2. Semi final against Wests 2010 - especially because I dreamed the score the night before and posted it on the old Wall, I'm in the youtube footage and my boy SKD scored at the end - which I also predicted.
      3. Away game in 2005 against Canterbury. Morley had been sent off and we were down 16-0 at half time with 12 men. We stormed back over the top of them and steamrolled them. I still have the newspaper article with Finchy and Ricko hugging each other and the headline was "Revenge of the Roosters"...happy days...

I remember posting on The Wall after that Dogs game that it was the type of performance that can turn the season around. I guess most of the things I write do turn out to be bullshit after all.

I actually remember reading that at the time. It could have been the case too as we should have made it back to back wins the following week against the Dragons only for Tupou to drop the ball with the line open and Mat Head to have his 15 mins of fame.

                1. 1982 Qualifying final against Wests - my first game at the SCG. We won 11-7.

(I was just reminded of that because it was replayed on Fox the other day.)

                2. 1997 Semi Final against Norths - I've never seen the extra time part of it because of Channel 9's insistence of cutting to a funeral of someone apparently famous.

                3. 2002 Grand Final win.

Maybe it's time for the three worst losses? Had we lost to the Cows that would have been one of them.

Lol. I remember number 2 like it was yesterday. That is a worthy contender.

I also remember the extra time TV shambles. And we smashed them to pieces in extra time. The Gould Years gave a lot of joy. What about when he wanted to take the team off at Brookvale. I still have the cutting framed.

When we were getting reamed by the ref's. I seem to remember I was at work when that happened, watching it on a dinky television in the break room during lunch.

                          2000 Prelim Final v Naughts.
Round 1 2012 versus the vermin with mini's last gasp try to steal the game, although it was overshadowed by round 19.
The two Round 26 wins in 13/14 to steal the minor premiership from the vermin.

God I love beating those farks.

                          Chook.

                            My best three are:

                            2002 semi-final against the Knights 38 - 12. Plenty of highlights.
2013 semi-final v Manly 4 -0. Only the one try but edge of your seat stuff.
1975 Grand Final v St.George 38 - 0. That's as good as it gets (well, any Premiership for that matter but this was a cracker)
"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

Yep all we saw was Garlick crash over then the news.

                              One of the great games.
