  • Who improved and who disappointed

Who are the three most improved and three most disappointing players this year?

    Improved
1/ Pearce - it took the incident at the night club for him to change his focus but the last two months showed he is capable of being one of the top 3 halfbacks in the game. Captaincy will help him focus. Looking forward to next year.

2/ Napa - he will be our enforcer.

3/ Guerra - deserved his SOO call and was Qld's best forward. Our best as well.

    Disappointing
1/ Cordner - as I mentioned in another thread it seemed like he was on a 12 month Mad Monday. Frustratingly disappointing this year. I thought this would be a breakout season making him one of the top 3 backrowers in the game. Probably the fittest year he has ever had too. I hope he gets his focus right for next year.

2/ JWH - began the year unfit and overweight and seemed the same most of the season. He gets some bad calls but fark me he has some stupidity in his game. Nowhere near the impact player he was last year.

3/ FPN - unbelievable that he was worse than 2013. At least last year he showed up about every 5-6 weeks but I can't remember a half decent game this year. I had the other two higher because I expected more from them but FPN met my expectations.

Improved: Dylan Napa, Jake Friend, Mitchell Pearce
Disappointed: Boyd Cordner and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck regressed this season. I'm really concerned with Sheck being the fullback next year. I'm hoping there's a plan B. And Frank Paul the ping pong ball needs to be given permission to look else where, and Maloney was average.

Friend stagnated ????, he was good last year but thought he had come even further this year.

Sick of the Cordner alcohol references from people who know nothing.

Always amazes me just how much damage to the club is self-inflicted by fans. I hope he doesn't read any of the crap.

He improved marginally, but was pretty much the same player from last year.

Doesn't mean he's not brilliant, I think he was our best player this year and second best last year.

                1. Guerra... made the step up from bench forward to Origin starter. An unlikely hero IMO, but starting to shine!
                2. SKD... I think had an uncharacteristically good season! Lots of solid runs and no gaping defensive errors.
                3. Pearce... IMO getting sacked from Origin did a LOT for this fellow. He developed an awesome running game and started showing a bit of his well known potential, particularly during the business end of the season.

Disappointing (gonna name 3 of my favourites here)
                1. RTS... love the guy, but I think he's pretty heavily marked now. Will frequently make 50m and get driven back 60. Still, he's developed more of a passing game. Maybe we'll see more when he starts playing #1? I sorta feel this was a tough year for him that had to happen because Mini took his wing (and a bunch of captain's tries) in attack. Not a bad player, but I'm expecting a LOT more from him in the future, so rate him harshly.
                2. Maloney... another player I really like, but his kicking has been off (particularly his conversions) and he got the most handling errors out of anybody this season. Not saying I think he's rubbish, but I know he can do a lot better than he did this year.
                3. Gonna opt for SBW... again not because he was bad, but because he wasn't amazing. While he did a lot more good than bad, I felt that SBW over-played his cards a lot of the time and tried to force a lot of miracles. I like that kind of passion and am glad he was part of our team this year, but he failed to have any Hayne/JT moments where he picked the game up by the scruff of the neck and said 'I'm here to get the job done boys!' I can make a lot of excuses for him, but end of the day while he played well, I know he can play a LOOOOOOT better! Call this a failure to be amazing... SBW didn't win us high pressure finals games against Penrith and Souths. IMO he possesses enough skill that had he been at his best, we wouldn't have lost either game because he would have come up with a hat trick out of nowhere. Yes this is greedy, but that's what I expect from arguably the best player in the game.

Why not FPN? I didn't expect him to win games for us all by himself. He's not an 80 minute player and IMO he didn't under-perform or disappoint based on my expectations.

SBW went from being a top 5 player to struggling to make the top 50. Our failed season rests on his head for mine.

JWH went from best prop in the game to outside the top 10.

                  Cordner was a party-boy disgrace.

How do you know "people know nothing"? If you knew the real story about the night out with Pearce you would cry for a week.

Pearcey killed the backend, was deadset the form half of the comp
Daniel Tupou showed how far his game has come, I want to see him play fullback next year. He has elite height, is quicker than RTS over breakaway distance and could be devastating hitting holes.
Sam Moa I love him. Gives 100% every game, is no nonsense, no trouble and gets through a surprising amount of defensive work for a prop.

                        Disappointing
Mini In my opinion Mini was the worst player in the NRL in 2014 and cost us a GF with his performance against Penrith
SKD The bloke is a passeneger, he only passes it to Roger when he is being tackled out of play and comes out of his line at every opportunity, leading to our weakest part of the field defensively.
SBW Im not disappointed hes gone, he lost his X Factor in 2014 and Im excited to see how some of our young fellas come along (esp Boyd who is still 22, with added responsibility)

I wont say improved because it's not like their learning to play by now since they already won it so its more like who showed most of the year and who didn't.

Showed up: SKD( the much maligned), Toupo, Pearce, Guerra Friend

Neutral: Mini, Maloney, Moa, Nene, Maubbs

Didn't show up: RTS, Cordner, JWH, Napa, FPN, Caasty,

Hope For: Evans, Horrie Jnr, Meehan and Nene

This threads hilarious.. Everyone was all over Cordner when his corridor tries were sealing matches for us now he's coping a hiding, on the back of a 3rd place finish and a SOO series win at the young age of what 22??

Whoever said Guerra been disappointing needs to stop watching football... That takes cake even for this place.

All the praise for Topou amazes me. The way he gets belted coming out of our own end nearly cost us the GF last year and killed the start of our sets 7/10. He's done nothing this year that any other fringe rep winger hasn't done. A lot of them have done it better. His effort/read on Tuquiri first half last week was deplorable. I have no hesitation to say Nene would have been more valuable in last 5 games than Tupou.
Tupou to fullback -> LOL LOL LOL

                              Positives
Pearce, SKD, Friend, Moa, Napa, Jennings, GUERRA, MacDonald

                              Neutral
SBW, Mini, Tupou, Maubs, RTS, Cordner, Evans

                              Negatives
                              FPN, JWH,

Casty I knew nothing about to start with... So neither here nor there.

Maloney I really can't put my finger on...
