it doesn't matter what he was like as a player. Robbo wasn't a superstar either, but is doing ok as a coach

                Exactly.

Besides, he probably played half a dozen games for us during an injury crisis in 2002.

I'd like to know a bit about his coaching experience.

Seems like he's from the Robbo school of calm and collected.

He took the Eels within 1 minute of the NYC GF... they conceded two tries in the last minute to lose to the Warriors. Still a great achievement.

He previously coached Canterburys NSW Cup team and i think they won a GF or atleast reached a GF from memory?. Also coached the Dragons and Eels u20's. The Eels u20's falling one game short of the GF.

What i like is that Justin has played for the club and that we continue to get people with ties to the club to come work for the club. He is also a specialist halves coach and can hopefully bring some fresh ideas and plays.

He has form on the board.

I wasn't a big fan of Taylor. Not convinced players respect him that much after he was ko'd by one of his own players.

Sydney Roosters sign Justin Holbrook to replace Jason Taylor as assistant coach

Former Sydney Roosters player Justin Holbrook has been appointed as Jason Taylor's replacement on the club's coaching staff.

The 2013 premiers were on the lookout for a deputy to Trent Robinson after Taylor took over as head coach at Wests Tigers. After scouring the market, they settled on Holbrook, who was Parramatta's National Youth Competition coach this season. The Eels were one of the big improvers in the under-20s tournament in 2014, narrowly losing the penultimate game to the eventual premiers, the Warriors.

Holbrook has been coaching for a decade after playing stints with the Knights, Panthers and Roosters in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Prior to his tenure at the Eels, Holbrook oversaw St George Illawarra's NYC side while also being a part of the joint-venture club's corporate team. He had previously worked with Canterbury's NSW Cup side.

The Roosters opted for Holbrook because of his playing experience in the halves and the fact he has a proven track record working with young playmakers. He finalised the deal on Friday. "He will bring a lot of experience from his previous two clubs and as a player," said Roosters boss Brian Canavan. "He's a good communicator and being a specialist halves coach it's an area all clubs look at proving their delivery in."

                            Welcome aboard, Justin.

So long as Trent is first grade coach, I don't think it's a bad to have a continual injection of fresh ideas in the assistant roles.
