Chasing these sorts of players is why the Sharks will always be a mediocre club.

In my opinion he's a ball playing backrower. Runs very good lines on the edge. But with some good development I think he'd be an excellent lock. And a unique one these days when coaches are essentially just putting a third prop with better hands there. He did struggle defensively in terms of reading the play in first grade but that was playing centre, a position he has never played. It is a pretty tough ask for a 20 year old to play completely out of position on debut. Nothing wrong with his technique and he's definitely talented enough to play first grade. Would be great if he was developed into a lock cos that would give us some great attacking options this year.

SMH reporting overnight that Toups could be one of the first to suffer from salary cap pressure and have to move on for 2016

if we end up keeping Guerra and JWH there is certainly a scenario that we lose SKD/Toups and Maloney for 2016

Wouldn't sadden me if Tupou isn't upgraded. Guerra and JWH are massive loses, followed by Maloney (dependent on what Hastings and RTS turn into). Meaning if Hastings and RTS come along then can cop losing Jimmy.

                Actually found it

                http://www.smh.com.au/sport/eels-beg...20-12bise.html

                Rooster roster
Roosters representative winger Daniel Tupou could be squeezed out of the club when his contract expires at the end of next year. Tupou is on a modest contract, signed before he rose to represent NSW, and Australia and the Roosters won't have room to match any inflated offer. He failed to recapture his form post-Origin as he battled with a persistent back injury. Tupou was dropped after just one game for Australia. Teammate Shaun Kenny-Dowall is also off-contract.

It'll be a shame to lose Toups but where a victim of our own successful recruiting this kid was on the scrapheap until POS took a punt on him and now he's turned into a rep player but you can't be offering massive deals to wingers the Knights are a great example paying Uate $450k a year and having little impact since.

I hope Toups can regain his pre-injury form/confidence, he wasn't the same after getting injured in origin, before getting injured he was just learning how to use his size in kick returns, after he returned he was getting stood up and pushed back way to often.

Tupou was one of the best wingers in the comp this year, hell probably the best. Even after his injury he was still very good, his tries against Melbourne and the Cowboys show this. His combination with Jennings and Maloney is lethal, and his aerial ability is the best in the NRL.

Surely we have to keep one of SKD or Tupou, I'd prefer we lost JWH if we were able to keep players like Toops, Napa, Guerra etc.

Couldn't disagree more, JWH is the number 1 priority this season, he's the leader of our forward pack. When he's fired up the rest of the team jump on his back and play off his energy. Macdonald is a ready made replacement for SKD or Toops, there is no ready made replacement for JWH.

Toops aerial ability may be the best in the NRL but it was irrelevant this year, I can't remember more than a couple of occasions when it actually came in handy. Unless the NRL crack down on blockers it's almost not even worth considering. With Toops, SKD & Ferguson all off contract next year at least one of them will be moving on and given Toops quickly rising status I get the feeling we're not going to be able to justify the money being thrown at him.

Completely agree Rooster_6. Whilst JWH may not be captain, he is the spiritual leader of the pack, and when he gets a roll on, the forwards often find themselves steaming down field on the back of his yardage.

Regarding Tupou and SKD, they are simply the downfall of our own success. With class such as Jenko and Fergo in the centres, we can afford to recycle wingers in order to stay under the cap.

Toops and Skids may be our wingers in 2015, but don't be surprised if they are replaced by McDonald and Burgess in 2016.

I agree R6. Without diluting or belittling any of Daniel's achievements at Easts, I wouldn't begrudge him going back to Parra for instance if we did have to let someone go. We can't keep each and every player and that is the nature of the game and the business these days. I will be forever grateful for the experience of watching him play for our team and the way he had conducted himself. If another club throws big money at him, good luck to him. He's a humble, talented respectful young man.

The blocking rules for bombs are an absolute disgrace.

You can't be serious you want to lose a top class front rower who intimidates teams for a winger who can be easily replaced with 1 of our young outside backs plus we just signed Fergo we've got cover if we lose Toups but it would be catastrophic if we lost an enforcer like JWH.
