I seem him play fullback at schoolboy level, he glided around the park. So calm and organised. In the photos I've seen this off season he has bulked up, really good considering he is 18. This kid wants it and the club knows it!!!!

I love to hear stuff like that.

From what I have heard, the merge scum offered him a lot more than we did and better opportunities last year to stay on with them. They obviously rate him for a reason.

I have a mate who coached him back when he was about 16 for rep touch footy. He said to me he has all the skills. It will come down to his head (desire and being prepared to work hard)....let's just say he was a pretty cocky kid back then...

Andrew Johns was cocky. He's also the best player I've ever seen.

So if you can back it up on the field I could care less if he's arrogant.

Many of the greats are full of themselves and super cocky - Ronaldo, Kobe, Jordan, Johns, Warne etc.

Fark I just unwittingly broke my self ban from the trollpen! Ok holiday break back on

The kid is in a hurry and wants it badly. I'll back him to succeed, while possibly not endearing himself to opposition fans as he does it.

Yeah he's filling out quickly Horry if we jag Foran I've heard they could turn him into a lock.

That's what I have heard as well from a reliable source that he will become a lock if we jag Foran

Foran was always a forwad but too small hence became a 5/8th but Ill give him credit he became of age during the four nations.

Foran would be more suited at lock with Hastings at 5/8th..

In an era when manufactured halves are such a regularity; naturally talented would be the best way to describe him & a great work ethic to go with that. I remember watching him play for the Dragons 20's as a 17 year old and he was head and shoulders above everyone. Was playing fullback but he'd jump into dummy half & first receiver and he was easily mounting up 40-50+ touches a game which is something not seen for a fullback.

He's different to both Jimmy & Pearce. Plays a lot more off the cuff and has exceptional vision, it's something so rare in halves these days. I remember a Jets game he played in this year where we looked absolutely hopeless in attack and if I remember correctly both Taumata & Dureau came off injured so he was slotted into the halves and created 3 of the 4 tries that saw us come from behind to win a great game.

People who think that he's overrated because he's not starting for the Jnr Roos or the NSW 20's teams need to remember he's only 18, these teams are generally picked on the best players at that point in time and most of the players picked over him have been 2 years his senior. It's not unusual for seniority to be picked over raw talent in these junior squads. In fact making 18th man for the Jnr Roos at 18 years of age is a great achievement.

I'm trying to talk his dad into doing the same.

Sounds a little like if pigs fly we're gonna...

As much as I like Hastings, you can't just guarantee that Kevin's son will have a job for life and a guaranteed starting spot. He's a U20s half/fullback who has rushed onto the scene and shown promising signs already. I like the kid, but he knows as much as anybody that he's gotta earn it. IMO this is why aged 19/20 he's quickly put in the work to turn his body into a 'man's body'... also looks like he hasn't 'rushed' it like lots of kids do with big muscles (and get injured as a result). He looks very balanced and has a solid core (really awesome abs... which IMO is uncommon for footy players, particularly after bulking up).

Anyway I really don't care who his dad is. Conversations have gone from 'he's gonna replace 2 Origin quality halves' (Pearce/Maloney) to he's gonna replace a NZ international winger/fullback... to he's gonna replace Cordner/Guerra (2 kangaroos). Whaaaaaaaaa!!! Crazy talk... wait and see what happens.

It's not about being better than James Maloney and replacing him on that front but about managing the salary cap.

If there was no salary cap then of course Maloney would hold his position and Hastings would have to bide his time but the reality is we've already got a lot of our cap tied up in our backline and some of that needs to be released so we can retain our quality players and potentially invest in a backrower to strengthen our backrow after SBW's depature.

What happened to the bosses saying Horry would be our starting #9 in 2015? Your cred is shot mate..

Why pay overs for a backrower when we already have Cords, Guerra, Aubbo, Papalli, Siejka, Taukieaho, Setu, Mckilrick? and looking at the shape change in JWH we could see him play some backrow in 2015 similar style to Gallen. We have plenty of props Meehan, Evans, Napa, Moa, Kennedy, Liu, Setu. Robbo will have plenty to contend with what we've already got.
