  • Evans going nowhere

The Sydney Roosters have refused to release rising front-rower Kane Evans .

Several clubs are keen on Evans, a promising 22-year-old who made nine appearances for the Roosters last season.

Evans' management believes the Roosters have too many forwards ahead of the Fijian international in their pecking order and he has a better chance of holding down a regular top grade spot elsewhere.

But with doubts over the retention of star prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves , who is in the sights of Canberra and Ricky Stuart , the Roosters have told Evans he is not going anywhere.

Evans is my pick for the biggest improver in 2015, he's done his time in the NSW Cup and was consistently one of the stand out performers. I think Liu and/or Napa are likely to spend some time at lock this season so the door is definitely open if he's good enough.

This just adds fuel to the fire that JWH is gone.

        Agree R6.
I was disappointed when FPN was selected ahead of Evans into last year's semis. On his day, he will become a true enforcer. Even on an average day, he carries his own.

I expect him to play longer stretches in the 17. Otherwise he will leave us and probably start be a regular in 12-14 teams.

Evans is no rookie. 3 years older than Klemmer who has already played for Australia (even though only in a second string side).
It's make or break in 2015 for Evans. I get sick of hearing about the prospect. I want to see him live up to his rep already.
At 22 JWH was miles ahead of where Evans is now.

At 22 years of age Jared Warea Hargreaves was only in to his second full season of NRL football and playing often from the bench so I do not believe he was too far ahead of where Kane "The Undertaker" Evans is currently at.

I believe that Trent "Robbo" Robinson made an error towards the back end of season 2014 by leaving Kane Evans out of the team for players such as Remy "Martin" Casty and Frank Paul "The Wrecking Ball" Nuuasala against the larger forward packs. I was rather surprised that Mr Robinson did not show much faith in Kane Evans as our coach has shown a lot of faith in almost all of our younger players and allowed them to play in crucial matches.

I think Kane Evans will make his mark this year. Fierce competition for spots plus a couple of leg injuries in 2012? and 2013 have held him back. I could be wrong but I think he is only a year older than Klemmer.

Evans' defense is not where it needs to be at.

This is Evans season to shine, he will get heaps of game time, if he has worked on a few problem parts of his game, those being defensive flaws, high penalty giver, and consistency, if he corrects all three, the world is his oyster, and he will be well rewarded, by the club, if not he will be allowed that clearance, but hopefully for both parties, 2015 will be his best season ever.

Comparing props based on ages is ridiculous, a lot just flat out don't mature until they're in their mid 20's.

Who was Sam Moa @ 22 years of age?
Who was Paul Gallen @ 22 years of age?
Who was Brenton Lawrence @ 22 years of age?

It's the toughest position in the game and if you're not physically or mentally 100% there yet you're going to be found short. The talent is undoubted it's just that coming of age.

JWH was no different, his real break out season as an established first grader wasn't until 2013 and Issac Liu entering this season @ 24 is no different either, he's just starting to find his feet.

22 is baby years for front rowers, it's amazing what the Under 20's has done to people's perceptions. There is no predetermined time frame for development and there never should be. Look no further than Daniel Tupou, no one wanted to touch him once he became to old for the 20's, because in the eyes of many if you haven't made it by then you're never going to. But that's a rant for another time, a well funded reserve grade comp would do wonders for the game!

                        Interesting one.

If you had to choose between an expensive JWH or a cheaper Evans, who would you go with?

I think we all consider Robbo to be a very knowledgeable coach. Therefore despite our thoughts, there was probably a very valid reason as to why others were given the nod over Kane in the Semis.
