Anyone that watched SOO this year will agree that Qld lost that series in the first half of the first game when Cronk broke his arm. With him on the field , Qld wins 3-0. That's the impact and real value of a halfback. I also believe Smith is a great analyst of the game from dummy half and without him the Storm and Qld will suffer badly.
I believe in Pearce and Friend we have the best hooker/half combo after the aforementioned duo, and keeping them over the next 3-5 years will ensure we are contenders every year.

Couldn't be any further from the truth, Mitchells omission made the series closer for QLD.

People bag Pearce's state of origin displays and point to Hodkinson and Reynolds as being the key reason why NSW were able to win last season. The simple fact is NSW won because of Hayne and to a lesser extent Gallen and because Cronk got injured. In 2013 NSW won the first game of the series quite comfortably then lost the decider by 1 point. In that decider Qld were full strength and NSW were without Hayne and Gallen. How would the Hodkinson/Reynolds combo have fared without those two in their team?

            Yep I agree.

Hopefully they pick the same halves so the truth will come out. It will be better for Easts also.

I thought hodkinson was a guest on the field in one game. He had one run all game, I think that's why the opposition fell for the dummy and he just happened to score the match winner.

It was the classic rope a dope play, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, dummy and score. Hodkinson ran the ball once in two games and came up with a play which will take him into folklore

Winning SoO was bitter sweet for me from the perspective of being a NSW and Rooster supporter. NSW winning cemented in some people's minds the notion that the fault for previous losses lay at the feet of Mitchell and James or Mitchell and some other five-eight. Naturally such a notion is simplistic and unfair. I expect normal transmission to resume in shyte of origin this year with regards to the toads winning and hopefully they do that without Mitchell or James in the NSW team.

Not one person i spoke to gave credit to those two halves, all the credit went to hayne and cronks broken arm.

Bro's, those Bulldogs halves were passengers at best in the second game when we won the series. I recall Bird and Gallen being first receivers when we were on the attack and usually going one out and not even giving Hayne the ball or space he needed to put the game away. The Bulldogs halves did not even have the temperament or game sense to demand the ball, in which a good half or 5/8 does when there are scoring opportunities on the line. Hodgkinson apart from his goal kicking is pretty much useless, plus Reynolds is a number 9 not a 5/8th (grubby Ennis style in the making).

Hodgkinson got lucky, Qld thought he was useless and would just pass onto the more dangerous runners and when he put on the show and go they all fell for the dummy.

Anyway hoping they go with the two Dogs halves this year, but, seriously doubt it. JrJr is in line to reclaim his spot, his form late last year has been noticed and only has to reproduce it and will be picked. I am led to believe Daley is a fan of him.

BTW Bro's this place is pretty much dead these days....I know it is off season but lets get more RL talk, debate going...

Agree with you 're Pearce, I think he will be selected for SOO if the Roosters start the season well.

To me it wasn't about any player being in the side or any player not being in the side it was about NSW wanting the series more. NSW were more committed for games 1 & 2.
