  • Jimmy Maloney

Been watching the Warriors most famous wins today to cure my boredom, and I was/still am watching the 2011 replay of Souths v Warriors. It has shown me how good of a player jimmy is when his got his head on. His composure and especially his desire to attack the line was brilliant and can show us a reason why we brought him here. Hopefully he can find that attacking game he showed us in 2013 this year, especially after a quiet 2014

I can't see the scenario in which Jimmy remains at the club. If he has a blinder of a year and we win the comp his value sky rockets and will be near impossible to retain. It's his last contract so you'd think he'd take the money. If he has a garbage year the chooks would probably be inclined to try Hastings or recruit someone else. Either way maloney will be chasing a 3-4yr deal once his contract is up and I don't see us giving him one that long or matching the inevitable overs that struggling teams will throw his way.

This year is huge for Jimmy, without SBW the team will look at him and RTS to come up with the big plays in the big moments. Last year when Sonny wasn't coming up with points it was Pearce who stepped up and even surprised me, one of his biggest fans. But the reality is RTS and Maloney are in the team to create points and they're in positions that demand point scorers and creators.

I still don't think he's that type of player so it will be an interesting season for him.

It was Jimmy who 'won' us the 2013 GF...5 magnificent pressure goals, the magic bust off SBW, and the deft kick for Jennings to score, etc.
            Hastings ain't no Jimmy.
Foran, fell apart in the 2013 GF.
Trade Jimmy for Hastings or foran?
            No thank you!

Back to back minor premiers...we hardly failed in 2014.

            Save Jimmy!

Agree 100%. Cannot see why we are chasing Foran, if true. Are we just pushing up Foran's asking price to chew up Parra/Manly's salary cap?

Jimmy's goal kicking lone wins us games.

Maloney did have more try assists than Pearce last season 24 to 14 as amazing as it may sound.

It will all come down to Jimmy's desire to stay[ he's still young enough], performance and last but not least how much we can afford to pay him... A lot will be known when we get to see the new dynamic with the 2015 backline shuffle, to add to that Jimmy's one of the best halves in the competition [both on and off the field] and over the last 2 seasons one of the top point scorers in the NRL.

When you think about it mate it's not all that surprising. When you think about how we score a lot of tries across the backline it was generally Jennings or Tupou receiving the ball off Maloney through that set play we run with two lead runners going at either side of the half. I think the fact Maloney had so many try assists still in a pretty scratchy year for him somewhat highlights how solid Pearce was, in that he was consistently choosing the right option which was quite often Maloney sweeping (cos Cordner is so good at selling the lead).

Do we think he'll be playing the 9s this year? Pearce is definitely long odds now that he is in the All Stars game. It's a shame cos I think Pearce would have started in the 9s this year.

As a side, really looking forward to watching Matt McIllwrick go round. He looks like a pretty switched on young fella and it sounds like he's been doing all he can to learn from Friendy in the preseason. Mentioned that he considers himself a running hooker. Sounds like he doesn't mind the tough stuff too. Probably the perfect replacement for a bloke like Friendy. I don't think their is a better ball playing hooker in the game than Jake at the moment so if he can teach McIllwrick some of the finer skills involved in finding and exploiting that dead end that is so important to good dummy halves then we'll have a real player on our hands!!

I'm not suggesting we shouldn't retain him. It all depends on his form this year. I just don't think we will retain him and I really don't see us chasing foran. I'm sure that's his management making those noises. Hastings however could very well be our future. Smart judges are very keen on him.

One thing I will say for Hastings, if handles the pressure of being our prodigy with the name Hastings, he'll be able to handle anything.

                            Chook.

We should retain jimmy until Hasting's aims up because Foran has signed with the eels.
