There is a lot more to playing fullback then speed. Not much point comparing RTS to a young Mini. I mean you couldn't even compare the old Mini to a young Mini. Just like you can't compare Maloney to Fittler or Maubs to Sonny Bill.

Would need a phone book to list all the players who failed because their game didn't have any more depth to it other than being quick.
Yes, if RTS were a playmaker a la Fittler, Thurston, Lewis, Johns, then genuine pace would merely be an added bonus.

But where he is playing, and without (at the moment) a killer passing or kicking game or size and power, he needs more acceleration than he is showing now to be a great rather than good player. I hope he finds it. No good having a killer step if you can't capitalise on it with acceleration to break the line.

I think he's a bit too big now. In his debut years he seemed lighter, and was equipped with that turn-of-pace that saw him make stoopid breaks, regularly. Like that midfield one against Manly in 2013.

I wonder if using him as a battering ram, making Winger-up runs in our 20, like, five thousand times a game saw him build that extra bulk much to his (and the team's) detriment.

Put Maubs in a crap team and see how he goes.
He is a solid first grader. A team man. A linker. That's about it. When the roosters we're going poorly and looking for a young gun for the future it was never going to Maubs. Jake Friend is a similar type of player but I consider him a major asset.
As Trent Robinson is a avert good coach he has given Maubs a specific role and he does what is asked. I could pick 100 other first graders who do what he does in a good team.

I've been singing that song for a little while now Wallet.

I reckon within a few seasons that's where RTS will be...whichever club he is with.

In the words of Gus - no no no no no no no no no!

I rate Maubs as one of the best right edge backrowers in the comp. A great hole runner and a brilliant defender. A tidy little in and away too that'll put Fergo away often this year.

He'll be one of our best this year if left to the right edge as an 80 minute player.

Bingo. He's hard to tackle, elusive and strong, a big game player and defends like a demon.

How the hell hasn't he been on NSW's radar.

I reckon you have it arse up there sTrewth.

Maubs is consistent. That's his asset. He gives you his all, good or crap side, no matter the coaching or the number he wears on his back. The difference between his best and worst is minimal.

I don't believe he has ever been viewed as a young gun as such??? Not by me at least.

He isn't going to be that guy, sure, it's not his nature.

But no team will ever win a comp without a Maubs.

                    Period.

You were Wong about Maubs. You said he had DaFunchys teef. Which I have to admitt is so true.

Let's hope you're as Wong about RTS.

I actually think Maubs/Guerra should be in the backrow with Cordner playing off the bench.
I feel Boyd needs to really knuckle down this season & make footy the number 1 priority.

Ive said from the start Im not sold on RTS at FB. I would try Nene McDonald at FB in the trials.

Dude I can see the love for Mitch.
I have love for him also.....but put him on the open market and test his value.

You might get a 350k offer from the gold coast.
What is he on here??? 250k plus a 100k top up?

                        I would be staying put.

But you've turned this thread into a an Aubbs bash when he doesn't deserve it. He was crap back in 2012 when I wrote it and he will probably go back to be being crap now. But he doesn't deserve any criticism really.......he is a true rooster.

You realise he was bagging us by saying we were over the cap right? He grossly overestimated just about every player we had.

Not only that but the moron forgot about 3rd party sponsors and what not.

Nene McDonald - This is the same guy that last year against Cronulla when Mini went off injured couldn't catch a cold, and majorly contributed to us losing an unloseable game. I personally reckon Roger will go pretty well as he is a special player, but at least give the guy a chance before you shit can him!!!
