  • Roosters vs Manly trial team lists

looks like apart from Matai the Sea Eagles are at full strength for the trial, will be the perfect test to see where we stand a couple of weeks from the start of the season.

the most interesting things for us :

    - where does Fergo line up, is it right centre or wing
    - how does the backline function with RTS at fullback
    - does Maubs play hooker or right fringe second row
    - can we start the season with Mcilwrick(hooker)/Hastings(utility)/Maubs(backrow) all in the 17
    - who out of Kennedy/Evans/Meehan/Setu/Taukeiaho/Manu fills the final bench spot

this is the Manly team for Saturday night

Sea Eagles: 1 Brett Stewart, 2 Peta Hiku, 3 Jamie Lyon (c), 4 Cheyse Blair, 5 Clinton Gutherson, 6 Daly Cherry-Evans, 7 Kieran Foran, 8 Josh Starling, 9 Matt Ballin, 10 Willie Mason, 11 Tom Symonds, 17 Feleti Mateo, 13 Dunamis Lui. They're still missing Lawrence and Buhrer but that forward pack is terrible.

I agree the only thing holding manly is their backline and most of them can't tackle. Our big boys will carve them up in all grades

      NRL: 6:30pm NSW CUP: 4:15pm NYC: 2:00pm

Geoff Toovey has named his strongest possible side to contest for the inaugural Community Cup against the Roosters on Saturday night.

Halves pairing Kieran Foran and Daly Cherry-Evans will spearhead a star-studded line up featuring skipper Jamie Lyon, Brett Stewart and new recruits Feleti Mateo and Willie Mason.

Steve Matai, Jamie Buhrer and Brenton Lawrence remain in rehabilitation as they battle to be fit for the start of the season.

The Sea Eagles will travel to Gosford for their final hit out before the start of the NRL season, where they will take on traditional rivals Parramatta in round one.

The creation of the Community Cup comes off the back of the Clubs agreeing to play each other in an annual pre-season trial for a minimum of the next four years. The first of these trials is to be contested next Saturday, February 21 at Central Coast Stadium in support of our inaugural Community Cup partner, Bowel Cancer Australia.

interesting that Maubs has been named on the bench and that Robbo has gone with Liu at lock rather than Guerra or Napa.

looks like McIlwrick has beaten out Maubs/Horrie Jnr/Williams for the starting hooker spot.

also no Meehan or Setu on the bench.

anybody know if Napa is suspended from round 1 because of his high shot at the 9's.

Unless it is just to audition all 3 of McIlwrick, SoH and Maubs at hooker and testing liu at lock for origin time, I find it surprising that Aubo isnt in the backrow and Che is in the middle. Apart from that, the team looks good

Trent Robinson has named a 22-man Squad for this Saturday's Pre-Season Trial against the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles at Central Coast Stadium, with injured Co-Captain Jake Friend the only notable absentee from the side.

Friend is still undergoing rehab following Off-Season surgery on his injured shoulder and is not expected to return until after Season 2015 has commenced.

Friend's fellow Co-Captain Mitchell Pearce will lead the side alone in his absence.

The first match of the year for most following a Wyong Roos Trial a fortnight ago for a handful of NRL Squad Members, this weekend's game will act as the final selection audition ahead of our Round 1 trip to Townsville in just seventeen days.

With plenty of positions still up for grabs following the departures of Sonny Bill Williams (NZ Rugby Union), Frank-Paul Nuuausala (Canberra Raiders), Remi Casty (Super League) and Anthony Minichiello (retirement), Robinson will no doubt look to trial all possible combinations and options ahead of the new year.

New to the Club in 2015, Blake Ferguson and Matt McIlwrick have been named as part of Robinson's Squad while the returning Marty Kennedy will also feature after the trio turned out for Wyong on February 7.

The match will also act as the first game for our internationals involved in the 2014 Four Nations including Shaun Kenny-Dowall (NZ), Isaac Liu (Samoa) and Boyd Cordner, Daniel Tupou and Michael Jennings (Australia).

Adam Hartigan has named a 23-man Squad for this Saturday's U20s Pre-Season Trial against the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles U20s at Central Coast Stadium.

The Junior Chooks welcome Vincent Leuluai and Paul Momirovski back to the fold after spending Pre-Season 2015 with the NRL Squad and featuring for the Wyong Roos a fortnight ago against the Sea Eagles in a NSW Cup Trial.

New Zealand U20s speedster Joseph Manu will also again feature after an impressive start to the season in the first NYC Trial of the year against Manly at Morry Breen Field a fortnight ago.

A match Hartigan told Roosters News was a positive despite the loss.

"We very patchy in our first Trial a fortnight ago with a big Squad not allowing for us to get our combinations how we wanted."

"We had a lot of drop ball too which saw our defence tested, which was a positive in seeing who aimed up so early on in the year."

The additions of Leuluai and Momirovski, combined with Manu, present a much more exciting prospect for Hartigan in adding much needed experience and depth to the group.

"Vincent Leuluai and Paul Momirovski coming back in is a huge bonus for us and will only strengthen the Squad," Hartigan said.

"I'm exciting too to see Richard Skelton play and also Zac Nicholls and Charlie Taylor, who come up against their old Club in Manly."

The match will also act as the final selection audition for the next generation of Roosters stars looking to nail down their jersey and impress Hartigan before the Round 1 trip to Townsville to take on the North Queesnalnd Cowboys.

"It's exciting for me in that our youthful group gets another chance to be in a game situation ahead of the new year," Hartigan said.

Taane Milne, Willis Meehan and Jackson Hastings were not considered for selection.

both players were on the Australian schoolboys tour that ended late last year, the club probably doesn't want to burn them out too early as they are certain selections in a full strength NYC team.

BIG CONGRATS to Fergo for making centre, onya bro!

surprise call up is Willie Manu

steady as she goes with selections

Well done Liu, considering there were doubts, he has never taken his place for granted, bottom line he's got to be an improvement on FPN.

Elliot will keep the wings honest.

At a guess the coach knows what he is going to get from Maubs.

I gather seeing Liu at lock and McIlwrick at 9 is more important at this point in time, looking for combinations.

Good side being pre season. Obviously not too many injuries as yet.

I think that this will be our starting lineup for round one . Makes sense to have Maubs on bench. We need a backrower to cover for our backrow as I don't think that all three of Cordner che and Liu can play for 80 mins. I like Liu at lock.I think he can develop into a good player. Interesting to see how McIlwrick goes.
