NEWCASTLE is set to open negotiations with Sydney Roosters discard Willie Mason as early as today following a meeting of club officials this morning.
The meeting, attended by senior Knights officials and coach Rick Stone, voted to recommend to the club’s board of directors that the Knights pursue Mason.
The board is certain to rubber-stamp the decision this afternoon, opening the way for negotiations to kick off between the club and Mason.
Knights chief executive Steve Burraston said the over-whelming support of Knights fans and sponsors in regard to signing Mason had played a significant part in decision.
North Queensland is the only other NRL club interested in Mason.
