Trewhella don't for a minute think I am naive enough to suggest there aren't a % of absolute wankers wearing the uniform. Your mate who is a senior police officer would agree with me 100%. I am sure of that. I had 20 years in the Force and can honestly say that the vast majority did a fantastic job and I was proud to work with them. There was also an element that were an embarrassment and never should have got through the selection process. These were usually the power hungry or those that treated policing as black and white.
There is a lot of 'grey' in policing and I found that 99% is common sense. In my opinion we were a lot better off when you could get in the Police with a trade behind you. Because you had 25 year olds joining. Guys and girls that had lived life a little. Now we have these text book police coming straight from high school or Uni. That's not to say that some of them have not turned out to become terrific officers, but I believe the quality of officers has gone down hill.
i say this because I think it goes a long way toward answering your question and why 'go catch real criminals' is far too broad a statement. Just like the majority of our police do a good job, so do the majority of football players. Just like the majority of mechanics will do a good job on your car and the majority of doctors know their stuff. At the end of the day that is how it will always be and there is nothing we can do to change it.
Another reason I mention the importance of simple common sense is because of something I heard Preston Campbell say once. During an interview he was asked if he likes alcohol. He said he does like a beer but he now refuses to drink. When asked why he answered, "Because I don't like the person I become when I drink". How can you not respect that? Imagine the amount of young footballers who would be much better people and have much better careers if they had the common sense of Preston Campbell.Embrace the Hate! JC

I guess we all make choices in life ..... "Green choices" or "Red choices" according to my little nephew in pre-school...and have to live with the consequences.
No matter what happens, any convicteds can't be put to death by the State...unlike our two boys in Indonesia.
The families of any convicteds here will still be able to see their loved ones.Last edited by bondi-boy; 03-01-2015, 09:57 AM.
