Roger played well. In defence and positional play it was obvious the Mini influence but stronger in the tackle. His positional play was first class and plenty of talking from him....maybe not as much as Mini but he was barking orders to the line.

His runs from the back were very good, obviously got us on the front foot making a few extra metres than mini at the end of his career and usually getting a quick play the ball, unlike often when he was hitting it back from the wing. He nearly busted the line a couple of times on kick returns not really show casing a lot of playmaking tonight but was involved in a several sweeping backline plays which more often than not were not Mini's strong point.

He was safe fielding kicks but really wasn't put under a lot of pressure. The try he scored was a classic RTS side step and he could have scored one from an attacking kick from a bomb which was well taken by Stewart in a keenly contested bomb between the 2 custodians. I would say 7.5 out of 10.

      • Wasn't there but good to read Toupo get a couple. I think he is valuable for us and can't understand why some see him gone next year.

        • Maloney was excellent in the game, you don't want him going any where as well as 18 Kane Evans

            True that!

Of the forwards Jared didnt play much minutes as he played All-Stars game last week. He looked to go more hard in this trial which was good to see. Napa was strong and apart from the brain explosion shoulder charge, his carries made good ground and his defence was punishing. Kennedy and Evans were powerful and what was particularly pleasing was that Marty really ran hard at the line and was bending it and appeared for this game anyway to leave the handbrake off. SST is impressive and could break through into FG this year, was usually bending the line and Manu in his limited time was impressive too with a powerful run and offload leading to a try by Napa?

Moa, Maubs, Cords and Guerra all were strong but I was focusing more on the fringe first graders. McIlreck played solid and will settle into our pattern of play but Maubs and SoH May have the jump on him, but it is a nice problem to have considering Friend is out for first 8 or so rounds.

            • All the doomsayers on here doubting RTS as fullback should've been at Gosford to see a polished performance saved a certain try holding up Symonds and scored a great try with sublime footwork leaving 3 Manly players clutching at thin air the scary thing he'll only get better,Pearcey also looks set for a big year scored a cracking try himself and our prop rotation was too much for Manly bring on round 1.

Matty Johns is clueless does more backflips than a politician Robbo should paste that all over the dressing sheds as motivation.

Liu maybe but Lawn Moa no chance made metres at will and his defense in tight is awesome liked the look of Takaheio could be a bolter for round 1 and we still have Willis Meehan waiting in the wings.

Agree Fletch boys looked fresh and really fit i told my mate we'd run all over them in the 2nd half Manly where huffing and puffing with 20 mins to go also loved Mk not taking a backward step to Mason his defense around the ruck was impressive thought Mcilwrick played himself out a spot for round 1 didn't run enough for me Aubo cut them to pieces.

Someone will have to make way cause Burgess not coming here to play reserve grade we have the most potent backline in the NRL.

Very impressive display lucky some of the blokes on here don't pick the side hung the poor kid before he had a game at fullback.

                            • Settle petals. Was just sayin' that with an extremely competitive rotation, it's more likely Moa than Jared who will have to produce each minute, each week.

I don't doubt he will - that's just Moa. But he'll certainly need to remain fired-up.
Making Steve Naughton look like Vince Mellars...

Thanks for the reply mate. He's one of my favourite players not only in the Roosters side but the whole Nrl. I think he's in for a big year and I felt a bit sorry for him at times last year, just did a lot of grunt work for us, tough hit ups no real sweeping movements to him on the wing.
