    Post-Mason Roosters sign new sponsor

SURELY it was just a coincidence. Less than 24 hours after the Sydney Roosters rid themselves of Willie Mason, the club ended its protracted search for a major sponsor by announcing a three-year deal with poultry giant Steggles.

Chief executive Steve Noyce claimed the deal could be worth as much as $4 million, making it one of the most lucrative in the NRL. Not bad for a club which was hammered last season, finishing with the wooden spoon and losing its long-time sponsor Samsung.

The deal will also result in both Steggles and the club raising money for charity through the year. The Roosters haven't had a lot to crow about in recent times, but yesterday was a banner day.

There could be more good news on the horizon as well with Manly halfback Kieran Foran weighing up whether to accept a new deal with the Sea Eagles or join his brother Liam and best mate Mitchell Pearce at Bondi Junction next year.

Foran, a New Zealand international who is widely regarded as one of the emerging stars of the NRL, held talks with Manly coach Des Hasler this week. The Sea Eagles tabled a four-year deal but Foran, earmarked as Manly's long-term halfback following the exit of captain Matt Orford, is believed to be genuinely tempted by the chance to play alongside his brother and Pearce.

"He's only a young player," Manly chief executive Graham Lowe said.

"We didn't want to put any more pressure on him. He's received a good offer from us. I think Des has outlined a good plan for him. It's up to him now."

Lowe acknowledged the young play-maker faced a dilemma. Foran has previously spoken of his desire to play alongside his brother.

"When he thinks about his career going forward, this is a massive step," Lowe said.

as a player, extremley talented but going forward; when we already have jacob miller coming through and carney who when anasta leaves should probs be shifted into 5/8 then i cant see a spot for him. In the centres he would be wasted as well imo so I would say no purely on the grounds of it being a move that simply strengthens unnecessarily an already strong area but i bet you all we get him - we have been linked with him for years and i think uncle nick is behind it all.

Carney, Pearce, Anasta, Liam Foran, Ben Jones, Jacob Miller, Jonathon Ford......have I missed anyone here?

Surely some of these will need to go if Keiran Foran is to join us. We are starting to get as many halves as we used to have second rowers!

I totally agree with you roz. We already have Todd Carney who can will in there and also young Jacob Miller who will be ready in 2-3 years time. We need to strengthen other areas of the squad such as the front row and a bit more speed out wide.

I don't know what it is with this club, they always seem intent on buying a crapload of players in one position. I really really hope they don't sign Foran.

In my best Gus Gould voice ... "NO NO NO NO NO"

For the reasons already listed in other posts, signing the other Foran makes NO sense.

How long is Liam signed for? I thought it was only for this year. So if we sign one, we have to sign the other.

I have a better idea. How about we let them both go to another club.

Liam will never set the world on fire, and we can do without Keiran as well.
