  • For those that went tonight....

should Carney be in the 6 and not the 1. I always thought we would be losing something by playing him at fullback as he is a class 5/8th. I know its only one game but would be interested in thoughts

I wasnt there, but from all the reports I've read from the media and other people , it sounds like Carney was fantastic at 5 8th.

He was very good in both positions but there is still another trial and we should at least wait to see how he goes in that trial before making too many comments

Carney moved to half for the 2nd stanza whilst Pearse was off the field and was outstanding.

For mine, he played more comfortably in the halves than at FB.

He may have but the rest of the team didn't go with him and it would take time for them as there were quite a few ill directed passes in the second half inviting the Tigers back into it but the only Tiger trying seemed to be Bengi

IMO i would have carney playing at 5/8 with pearce at 7 they were killing it tonight. This would move mini to FB and Anasta to lock. Myles and Maubs who both played very well to the back row. Sounds good to me.

I think he worked well at fullback in attack, still played a playmaking role and was also able to chime into the backline out wide. Of course the real issue which will make convince me either way is Anasta. If Anasta comes in and Carney and Pearce are still just as effective, I think he should stay at fullback.

It should be noted that Carney's defence and catching/kick returns were not tested AT ALL. Tigers kicking game was useless.

Carney was outstanding in the halves, not a bad fullback but it remains to be seen how long he stays there.

I was willing to give it a chance but now i am a firm believer in Carney at 5/8th.

                  - At fullback his positioning was poor.
                  - He was getting pummeled. You can't have a player like Carney running back kicks.
                  - Not as explosive in support play as Mini.
                  - The bloke is a natural 5/8th.

I always thought he would play a roving role at fullback in attack, chiming in and creating an element of surpise....... and that having him , Mini and Perret would give a real strong back 3 in defence,

maybe they just need some time to get an understanding. I think his positional play at FB will improve quickly once they do that.

From what I saw at the sfs I have to agree.

He is made for the halves. He seemed lost at times at fullback. The crap kicking game by the toothless tigers today did not test him out at all. Bad coaching by Sheens not to attack a player playing out of position, especially someone new to fullback. Also the inexperience of Lui to target him. Benji, although the only tiger having a go today, should have sent some high balls Carney's way.

                        I did go yesterday !

I thought the boiz played well. I know its just a trial but Carney and Pearce played evry well, Actually all round it was a good effort.

I think Carney played both positions well, I would mind if he played fullback or in the halfves. I know it's the first win and only a trial but I see hope this year for the chooks!
SKd and Daniel Conn had good games aswell!!

To be honest I cannot see how Carney will finish up anywhere other than 5/8 within 5-6 weeks. He was just electric with the ball in his hands last night. Thats not to say he didn't do well at fullback but he was never really tested (why the tigers never put up any mid-field bombs I do not know).

Anasta will shift to lock, Nate into the 2nd row and perhaps cherrington onto the bench.

He has to play in the halves

He spent very little time at the back, mind you did nothing wrong but he needs his hands on the ball.
